If I want to dual boot a Sawtooth G4 and a Quicksilver G4 with OS 9.2.2 and OSX 10.4, what are my best options for graphics to allow both OS to run in the best way?

I have been reading that the Ti4600 is great for OS9 but not OSX and the 9800Pro would have issues in OS9......those are the two cards I have slotted for the machines now. ..but after reading I am second guessing so wanting to ask...

Also, what about dual Graphics cards in the systems, AGP and PCI? Doable? If so, any recommendations there? How would the setup be done to have both cards working to use with whichever OS?

Could I go 9200 PCI and 9800 Pro AGP in one of them?

Ti4600 AGP and some PCI for the other?

Or would it best to just do Ti4600 running OS9 in the Sawtooth and 9800Pro in the Quicksilver running OSX?

Appreciate the help ahead of time...

Honestly, the 4Ti 4600 isn't terrible in OS X. Its biggest handicap is not supporting CI, but has enough "grunt" to somewhat make up for that. I'd not want to use it in a system exclusively meant to run Leopard, but I and many others have run Leopard on much less. I don't see a huge difference in G4s in Tiger between a 4Ti and a lower end CI card like a Radeon 9600, and depending on what I'm doing the 4Ti might still have an edge. It's definitely better than something like an FX5200 unless you're specifically doing something that leans on CI. On something like a Sawtooth, you're most likely going to be more CPU limited than anything.

With that said, I do generally designate systems OS 9 or OS X based on the installed GPU. As G4s go, I tend toward MDDs as all-out OS X systems, although I've spent a lot of time in Leopard on a dual 1ghz Quicksilver also.

Thanks for the info....I decided to go OS 9 on the Sawtooth I have with the Ti4600 and OSX 10.4 on the Quicksilver with a 9800 Pro....that should satisfy both needs I figure...just gotta find the space to have them running!

Sounds like a good combination.

I love the 4Ti 4600-I have a couple and tend to use them in "hotrod" OS 9 machines. Just earlier this evening, I was using a Digital Audio that has one along with a Sonnet dual 1.8-it's a beast.

If floor space is an issue, place a board on top of the QS and have the lighter Sawtooth sitting on top of that. Its what I do with my MacPros. Alternatively, remove the bottom handles from the ST and the top handles from the QS and you can sit one on top of the other quite easily.
