I play Need for Speed The Run with almost max setting @ 1680x1050 and it's fine with no lag. So I think there must be something wrong either with your configuration or your machine.

I have another problem. And it does it on EVERY need for speed game (That's all I use). After some time playing the game, the computer will just go to sleep and crash the game. Why is that?

It's faulty. Take it back.

I have an early 2011 with 6750M and i can play games without issue (other than fan noise).

This is a list of gaming performance for your EXACT machine:

To compare this please visit http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html

I wouldn't necessarily say this is completely accurate for a number of reasons. I've seen a 3dmark06 score for a supposed machine like the MBP in my sig, score around 8843.4 points on average while mine scored
11467 recently. So I would say that our machines, due to the fast i7's, would run a little better than a 6750m benchmarked without giving the laptops specs.

You're thinking of the 6770m, the 6750m is a fair step down.
Neither are good cards, the 6770m is at the bottom-end of mid class GPUs.

The 6750 is a low end dedicated card and as a result won't provide very good gaming performance on medium to high settings. That said, it's not a terrible card, Apple just doesn't choose their components with gaming in mind.

To the OP: Here's a great link for deciphering the naming scheme on ATI cards http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMD_Radeon

The 6770m is not that much better than the 6750m. I over clocked my 6750m and I can assure you that it runs faster than the 6770m stock.

The 6770m is just a slightly over clocked 6750M.

+1

I'm actually kind of shocked at the people dissing this graphics card. I have found it to be very good - if you know what you are doing. I do not use the stock driver that comes with Bootcamp (just awful), I tend to tweak the game, and then tweak Windows 7 for the best gaming performance.

For example, Skyrim with setting maxed runs great on my MBP.

For me, I do the following:

-Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
-16 GB of memory
-Disable the swap file
-I use the AMD beta drivers (modded)
-I wrote a script that stops any unnecessary servers and exits any apps that are not needed.
-I rarely use the AMD OC tool.

YMMV, but I have had great success doing this.

-P

What driver are you using ? The AMD OC tool really works ?? I always thought it didnt...
What about the overclocked clocks ? Will they always stay in 3d mode no matter what, or will they go down again once there is no more intensive work?

What about the swap file? Do you feel that you got a better performance with it disabled?

If you only have 4GB of RAM you could possibly benefit from getting 8GB, Ive had games eat up most of my RAM and cause a swapfile usage and that improved when I got 8GB instead. Mine is a 09" with the 9400 Nvidia though, but the improvement was reasonably notable.

An SSD wont speed up fps etc, it will reduce loadingtimes alot though.

Sigh.

As I stated in my post, these are results from his EXACT machine.

This whole thing is just a case of misplaced expectations. The OP was expecting the Mac to be powerful enough to meet his gaming demands. He's not using the wrong drivers or something like that, the computer just doesn't meet his expectations.

It's not a bad computer or GPU and he's not doing something wrong. Other people say the computer plays their games fine or even "great". That's awesome, you have different expectations than the OP, or possibly a different definition of fine or great.

My 2010 MacBook plays games fine for me, and it meets my expectations. But give it to someone whos used to a desktop gaming computer or even a better MacBook, and the performance may be very poor in their eyes.

I find the 6750M pretty decent. I have it in an iMac, the 512MB model. I was able to play following games with maxed settings on 1920x1080:

Skyrim
Starcraft II
Diablo III
NFS Hot Pursuit (the new one)
Mafia 2
Assassin's Creed 2, Brotherhood and Revelations

and couple of others which I can't remember now.

You have to remember that first of all you need Bootcamp installation. Second - you need most recent AMD drivers - the ones that come with Bootcamp installation are crap, and so are the ones downloaded from AMD website that were made especially for Mac. Just install the regular ones for Windows machines.

Well, I have just re installed winnows but this time 64 bit.

When I run need for sped shift 1 on minimum setting and get insane lag. Same with shift 2. What could this be? Can a GPU break in this way? What would technically to wrong with the GPU? I don't think the GPU can be THAT bad can it? What's wrong?

Just install the regular ones for Windows machines.

Where do I get those from?

Not intending to sound woeful, but I'm really depressed that I may have a faulty computer.... I do have apple care, but you know how hard it is to get things fixed. I've had some bad experience with apple. Here was the story:

I bought a brand new macbook pro in 2009 retailing around £2500. After a while the computers dvd drive failed, so I sent it to apple and then that got fixed. Same thing happened 4 times, but for the last time, when I sent it to apple, they sent it back with a big dent in the body (on the speaker). I rang them to explain this and they blamed it on me! They where so arrogant on the phone and it took hours for days to FORCE them to replace my computer, which is the one I have now. I am now worrying that now my computer has a problem with the GPU and I'll have all the worrying trouble of all that nightmare again. I don't know about any of your experiences, but mine was really bad. It just seems like when this happens, applecare is worthless. I love mac computers and software, but dislike the service and applecare. Why has the GPU broken? I have never, ever dropped this computer. It is quite new (2011 model). On my last one it was the DVD drive, now the GPU.....

On my mac partition (OS X lion), I can only run red crucible 2 on low settings... Something insane is going on. Even my iMac G3 could do better!

AMD 6750 Graphics

I play games on windows 8 and games run pretty well. I can max NFS undercover and RE 5 with above 40 FPS.

When I'm plaing SC2 WOL on Mac side, I get 30 FPS on med.
When I play SC2 HOTS on windows side, I get over 60 FPS on med, so saying >40FPS on high is possible.

On GW2 mac side, I get 30 FPS on low. On windows side, I get 50 FPS on med.

I'll run more test on other games and see how this graphic card turns out.

Proper Performance

:apple:I see that you have a MacBook Pro. Well my dad has an early 2011 MBP 15" with: - 2.3GHz Intel Core i7 2820QM
- AMD/ATi Radeon HD 6750M 1GB & Intel HD Graphics 3000
- 8GB DDR3 ram

And as he always hands me down his old computers i decided to check what games it can run & i used a site called game-debate to check the FPS's of 3 games: Battlefield 4, Battlefield 3 & COD Ghosts. The results were fairly odd (First of all Game debate rates hardware on a scale of 0-10), for BF4 the CPU & RAM both got a 10 but the GPU got a 5. Although I got these results the website said I can run the game at High settings (silver tick (in this circumstance as a silver tick usually means medium)) not ultra and in COD Ghosts it was the same result. But in BF3 I got 10, 6, 10 and it said I could run the game on the highest settings (green tick)

So in conclusion if you have these specs or similar specs your performance shouldn't differ too much. Plz note that resolution matters and it does take a tole on the total performance of the game.:apple:
