Give me a compelling reason why they shouldn't other than having some kind of strange defense of Apple.
Simple, they keep the blue bubbles all to themselves, just look at this thread and how many people want the blue bubbles. Look at Google nearly begging apple to provide the blue bubbles to android users.

Another reason, they are masters of their own domain, they can add/remove features that they choose too and allow enhancements to the imessage platform that benefits only apple customers. Why develop something that benefits their competitors?

Now your turn. You're the one who said
Apple really needs to implement RCS.

So now provide your reasoning as to why they really need to join

Before my current job I worked for a guy for 14.5 years who was an Android user. The nature of my job required messaging and he was always a green bubble.

In a perfect world I could have told my boss to go get an iPhone so I didn't have to see his green bubbles anymore. In the real world, I'd have been fired. He was of Welsh heritage by the way, so he'd have been yelling and throwing stuff at me while kicking me out.

So, all a really interesting thing - but I wonder how this plays against people who have power or authority over you versus those who do not.

Do Americans pay for every sent text?
We pay to send, those outside the US pay to receive (the rates their carrier charges them).

One of my UK friends has made that explicit by showing me the screenshot of how much I cost him.

I use iMessage to chat with my family, WhatsApp for all communication with my football team and other group messages and Teams for business communications. I do find iMessage limiting compared to a lot of other messaging apps (no emoji reactions just tapbacks and group options are very restrictive) and the only reason I use it at all is really because of the better integration with my watch (I often leave my phone behind when taking the dog for a walk or when I go for a run).

If I want to communicate with a mixed group of people I always use WhatsApp and there is no way I would use iMessage - not because of the colour of the bubbles, but because unless you use MMS (which is ridiculously expensive here in the UK - £0.60 a message even though i have unlimited SMS, voice minutes and 5G data) it's a very restricted experience

now, did the fact that you saw green and blue bubbles prevent you from doing your job? or get a message across?
My guess is, no.
As for your last sentence - I've never been in a situation like this but I guess if it would come to that, I'd say I'm surrounded by the wrong people and time to move on ...

Where I live in Sweden I think every carrier lets us send a few thousand (or unlimited) texts before they start charging us. Been like that for years and years.

Since when?
I am in the UK and I don't pay a penny for texts sent or received.
That sounds really odd. Maybe your friend is having you on? 🙂
That is entirely possible. It was a few years back though. I just recall him sending me a screenshot of the part of his mobile bill that listed international text messages.

Like me, he's a graphic designer so he could have faked it - and I wouldn't put it past him. :)

I did however, pay for the ones I sent him. My carrier charged me.

Haha! 🙂

This made me doubt myself, so I just went to double check and I have unlimited calls and texts in and out (only MMS gets charged for, and who sends those anymore? That's what WhatsApp is for… oh… hang on… 🤔 🤣)

No it did not prevent me from doing my job. And this whole bubble thing only became a thing in the last couple years, at least in my sphere of activity.

I don't really care what the color is. My point is that trying to force everyone in a group to use an iPhone is not likely to go over very well if you have people in your life that you can't boss around without hurting yourself. Not that I intend/want to do that.

Neither do I (have to pay a penny for calls or texts sent or received).

Curiouser and curiouser.

What an extraordinary thread.

How absolutely extraordinary.

I only learned of it (blue and green bubbles; I mean, seriously?) today, with this thread.

Agreed.

And whatever about attempting to boss the boss class around on the utterly ridiculous matter of phones, (good luck with that) I cannot imagine that friends will choose to retain that noun for terribly long if one attempted to force them to use an iPhone in order to be able to continue to communicate.

Perhaps he might explain, we'll see…

Dave! @designerdave72 Care to comment on past text messages I sent you that you told me you had to pay for? :)

Tired of your friends ragging on you for green bubbles? Lack of getting dates because women prefer blue bubbles? Are you tired of getting low quality videos in group texts? Not being able to participate with certain functionalities with your friends?

Time to grow up and get an iPhone.
Really? More like time to get real friends who aren’t complete snobs and look down upon you for a simple phone preference. Awful shallow trash mindset.

RCS is an industry-standard protocol that allows for more advanced messaging capabilities like read receipts, typing indicators, and high-quality media sharing. By adopting RCS, Apple would enable iPhone users to communicate seamlessly with Android users and other platforms. I don't understand why people desire to have handicapped conversations with Android users over SMS when RCS would fix quite a few issues. Embracing RCS would promote a more inclusive and open communication ecosystem, benefiting everyone regardless of their choice of smartphone.

RCS offers an array of features that could significantly enhance the user experience for iPhone users as well. By incorporating RCS, Apple could introduce new messaging features and improve the overall communication experience for all its customers. This would not only be beneficial for Apple users, but would also create healthy competition in the messaging space, leading to better offerings from various platforms.

It's obvious that iMessage is amazing, and other people want to have the "blue bubbles" experience. By implementing RCS, Apple can cater to their customers' preferences while also ensuring they don't feel excluded when interacting with friends and family using Android devices.

While keeping iMessage exclusive might provide a short-term competitive edge, embracing RCS could offer long-term advantages for Apple. By making their messaging platform more open and cross-platform, they would foster a larger user base and gain increased user loyalty. I'm certainly not going to jump ship to Android because RCS was adopted by Apple. It will simply make communication with friends and family with Android devices far less painful out of the box. This approach could also lead to more significant revenue opportunities through services and apps that integrate with a broader user base.

Apple has the potential to set industry standards and encourage more companies to adopt RCS. What Apple does, everyone else tends to follow. Embracing a standardized protocol would foster cooperation and collaboration among different companies, creating a more cohesive and interconnected messaging landscape for users worldwide.

The tech landscape is continually evolving, and customer preferences may shift over time. By embracing RCS and evolving alongside industry trends, Apple can maintain its reputation as an innovative and customer-centric company that adapts to changing user needs. Apple's stubbornness is not benefitting anyone but Apple. And this constant cheerleading of this behavior helps no one.

Implementing RCS on the iPhone would benefit both Apple and its users by fostering a more open and interconnected messaging ecosystem. It would enhance the user experience, meet customer demand, and contribute to a more inclusive digital communication space. By supporting industry standards, Apple can continue to lead and innovate while also ensuring its customers have access to cutting-edge messaging features and cross-platform communication. SMS is atrocious and needs to die a horrible death. The only reason people hate SMS so much is because it's insanely archaic.

That's totally not superficial at all.
Never said it wasn’t lol. I was also in my 20s haha

If people can have a height preference which is something that can’t be helped this isn’t too Bad lol.

I prefer iPhone guys simply because it is so much easier to stay connected or contact each other.

I met a woman at work when I was 24. I've always been in to computers and tech stuff, but here's this woman telling me that she once thought computers were a fad and that she'd never give up her typewriter. She kind of spit out the last bit too, making sure I knew what her disdain for tech was.

29 years later, we've been married for 25+ years and have a 19 year old son in his third year for IT and a 10th grade daughter who loves art and is bonded to her iPhone SE2.

So, I mean, whatever your preference is…

I use an iphone 13 pro max and If apple let iMessage and facetime on android i would be exclusively android. If rcs was on iphone i would be exclusively android. See apples issue? They won't be selling phones to people like me who has a whole family of iphone users. Apple will never allow this unless forced to

You're exclusively Android no matter what Apple does, so you don't really have a point.
