I just spent 30 minutes shoveling snow and ice off my walk and driveway, taking a short break every few minutes to catch my breath. It was hard work! When I got inside, my green ring had generously given me 4 minutes of exercise. I did get around 2000 steps, though.

I’m not that motivated. I close my rings every day, but that’s about it.

I was just making a point about the AI.

My heart rate was up, I can assure you. I’m 70 years old, and shoveling a foot of snow compacted by ice gets my heart beating like sex used to (sigh). That’s why I had to take breaks. No, shoveling snow like this is the hardest thing I do all year.

The exercise ring is a joke. I close the ring when I walk from one subway station to another, and then from the final station to the office (and vice versa at the end of the day). I'm not pushing myself, I'm just taking a leasurely walk.

conversely I was at an amusement park this past summer, I set my exercise to walk and spent 8 hours walking (and riding) the rides, yet, it barely registered any exercise.

when I work from home, it has me walking a 1/2 mile even though I'm moving from the bedroom, to my home office, to the kitchen for coffee. I'm not even getting up much but I've clocked in 1/2 mile of walking o_O

Maybe your watch wasn’t able to pickup your heart rate that well.
Maybe. But I was just outside finishing up, and checking the HR monitor it was up in the 130’s for a little while. Anyway, it doesn’t matter to me as long as it doesn’t miss something like a heart attack. :D
Just pointing out an anomaly, that’s all.

Yea I find that it works well if you use a sports loop that can be pretty tight against your skin.

Haha oh man. This

True! While I don’t shovel snow as I don’t live in the snow...I have read that many people have heart attacks from over exertion from shoveling. Be careful!

That’s crazy, I unload trucks and I get loads of exercise minutes in a three hour span. I never feel like I’m out of breath, but I guess moving back and forth and lifting some heavy boxes is knock off HIIT exercise with some strength training. Haha.

I noticed a similar issue when cycling

If a set an outdoor cycling workout prior to getting on the bicycle, the activity is being detected with the green ring closing rapidly

If I do not set any workout, almost no activity is detected not matter how hard I pedal and sweat

Something is off here

ps: during sex, which kind of workout I am supposed to set? is there a Siri command for this?

I find it hard to get exercise minutes. I took two brisk walks each 15 minutes long yesterday and got about 13 minutes on my ring.

I had to walk around at a fast pace indoors for quite some time to fill my ring that day. And only reason I did that was that I got my watch Friday and wanted to complete all rings to see what it was like.

I though I would easily get my 30 minutes every day but it turns out to be difficult for me
