Is there any difference? As far as I know they use the same exploit, is it worth it for me to rejailbreak my iphone 4 with greenpois0n? (its now jailbroken w Geohots limera1n).
Thanks

If you are already Jailbroken you don't need to do it again, no matter how many more tools will come out, unless you got issues
Limera1n and GP are not application like any other .app in the iOS, they don't run in the background, they don't need to be updated it every time a new version comes out, all they do is give you root access and them they are done. That's it... if you got root access (Jailbroke) don't need to worry about how many other tools are out there, or how many new version of the tool you used are out there.
As i said before, "Limera1n and GP are like a screwdriver that you use to screw something in, if you got your screw in, you don't need a new screwdriver... however if you were unable to screw it in, them try using the newer screwdrivers"
Both methods use the same exploit BUT the code they inject is different. So Yes they affect iOS differently. What if we are experiencing one or more of the bugs reported with limera1n? I don't get push notifications anymore and Push Doctor doesn't seem to have resolved it. I've restored and tried again and go the same results.
Do the different jailbreaks affect that portion of iOS differently? I may restore and try greenpois0n anyway.
I'm sticking with Limera1n until GP gives me a reason to switch, right now LR is running like a champ so I'm making no changes.
Agreed, all the crap people talked about this Jailbreak when it came out (mostly chronic dev team peeps), so far i've had 0 problems with either of the 2 phones that i've jailbroken with limera1n. And one of those phones I jailbroke within hours of the jailbreak being released. Props to geohot, save shatter for a rainy day.
What was the point of CDT releasing GP using the same exploit? Just to get a piece of the pie?
Who knows what they do differently, but comex has a pretty good track record at making a bug free/stable userland exploit out of the box, and while he provided the info for geohot to make his userland exploit, I dont think he did the coding there. (who knows tho, as comex's twitter seemed to imply that he helped geohot fix bugs after beta1 of limera1n)

Pretty much, they don't want Geohot taking all the credit. They also have a mac version which Geohot doesnt for now, but to be honest, they just didn't want to loose the spotlight.
Point? Let's see, there is already a Windows, Linux, and Ubuntu version of the greenpois0n available with a Mac version to be here soon. Then there is the PwnageTool for Mac that will be out on Sunday or so. geohot has what? Just a Windows version.
Also, CDT did all this work and were just about ready to go live when geohot decided to crash the party with limera1n using a different bootrom exploit. So, CDT had to save their exploit and recode to use the exploit geohot used.
You are criticizing the wrong jailbreak here.

You don't know what you are talking about.....

Dude, everything that you said about greenpois0n can be done for geohots jailbreak to, adding a mac and linux version isn't exactly revolutionary.
Where are these versions? They may not be revolutionary, but at least CDT had a plan for them. What is geohot's plan? When will you see the Linux and Mac versions of his jailbreak?
Read what I wrote again....maybe you will understand it better the second time through.

Its not about criticizing, its just that limera1n turned out fine. I'm actually happy it came out instead of shatter, shatter wouldn't have jailbroke the 3gs, and for now its been pretty bug free in my experience. I'm not saying shatter or greenpois0n is bad, but it wasn't going to do anything for 3gs owners, besides, I think its better to work on it a little more and not use it until 4.2
if im not mistaken the SHAtter exploit could not have been patched by a firmware update but needed a hardware update so it would not be needed until the next iphone or ipad comes out.
I really don't care about nerd drama; only thing that matters is if my device is supported.
