grey globe on recovery

mu mac has been rebooting randomly, so Ive been trying to run the hardware test. the cmd+r and holding D key at startup takes me to a screen that displays a spinning grey globe and a network wifi selection screen and stops. what is the next step please?

Have you ever replaced the RAM in it?

never replaced the ram, its a 2.9 ghz 21.5 2013. only odd they is that i was using a usb ssd to run osx now i'm trying to restore the internal hd to factory so i can run hardware test and maybe have apple techs look at errors
