Went to my local BestBuy this afternoon and they had just received some iPhone 4 cases. Decided to pick up the Griffin Reveal, Belkin Vue, and iFrogz Luxe Lean to do some comparisons. I'll decide which one I'll keep and return the other two. All three cost $24.99. Note that I have a generic screen protector on. I'm not the best at putting those on so no comments on the bubbles. I will find you...I will be unseen...I am a llama, I will bite you. ;)

Build, Fit, Impressions:
Belkin Vue is make out of a soft silicone material. Feels nice to hold. The sides are clear, while the back is frosted. You are still able to see the back of the phone, but it's not completely see through. The material doesn't seem to attract too much debris which is nice. There are some matte finished silicone that will pick up everything and anything that isn't attached to a surface. Case is easy to put on and take off. There is some rub against the screen protector.

Build and Fit:
The Griffin Reveal has rubber sides and a clear plastic back. This is the only case that will fully show the back of the phone, if that's your thing. My first impression had some concern where the rubber connects to the plastic back. I don't know if that would wear out or separate over time. Any 3g/3gs Reveal comments on durability? With this case on, it's slimmer than the Belkin Vue. They both provide the same amount of protection as they both cover the back and the sides completely.

Build and Fit:
Upon first putting the iFrogz Luxe Lean on, it reminded me of the Incipio Feather. The Feather was my favorite 3gs case. It provided just enough protection for me, while still feeling like the original 3gs iPhone. The Luxe Lean is a very similar concept. It's the thinnest of the 3 cases here, and provides the least protection. The top, bottom, and side buttons are exposed whereas the Vue and Reveal cover those. The material of the Luxe Lean is a kind of matte plastic. It's not as "sticky" as the Feather, but still gives a good grip. Also note that there is a nice felt material for the back of the iPhone 4. This is a nice touch so that the phone doesn't rub against the plastic.

Final Thoughts
Which case you choose depends upon the type of protection you want. The Vue and the Reveal will give you the best protection as they cover the sides and back. The Reveal to me is the flashier of the three, but it's really just showing off how beautiful the iPhone 4 looks.

In the end, I am choosing the iFrogz Luxe Lean because it's similar the my previous 3gs Feather case. Just enough protection while still feeling like the iPhone 4. Again, this is my top criteria, so take that into account. I'm not here to determine which one is the best, because that depends on your criteria.

Hope this helps some people when looking for cases. Congrats on those that have received their iPhone 4 this week! To those who haven't, your wait will be short. No worries, it will be worth it!

Thank you for this. I wish the iFrogz was in clear....seems like the best fit.

I was originally going to go Invisible Shield with Bumper, but I'm liking the looks of the Reveal more and more.

I called Best Buy but they weren't very helpful saying that they don't carry anything like that (Griffin Reveal) and are only selling gel and snap cases -- but that's what I expected. Have to go down there and help them find them in the store :p

I saw these today but had to pass on all of them:

Slimfit was interesting but afraid the back plastic back was scratch prone & would look like crap after a while. I wonder why they didn't make the back more scratch resistant/forgiving frosted plastic like the Macally Metropadl for the iPad.

I didn't care for the clear look of the Grip Vue. It makes the black iPhone look whitish. Maybe if they had the smoke color I'd have considered it.

I liked the Frogz best but it offers no protection for top and bottom. The multi-color versions do protect all sides but not professional looking. I wish I knew why the solid colors offer less protection. I'd give them the extra $4.

can you compare the button areas? i just got the belkin vue, and i wanted it because it was clear... but the buttons (power, vol+, vol-) are a bit hard to press down with the case on... is the griffin reveal a softer material than the vue? if thats the case i may just return the vue and get the reveal

I should have noted that as well for the Reveal. Eventually it will get scratched, but that's better than having that actual phone scratched.

The Vue has the thickest material and it does make the buttons hard to press. The buttons on the Reveal are softer and easier to press. I would choose the Reveal over the Vue as my second case.

Would it be ridiculous to stick a cheap screen cover on the back of it? I'm tempted!

It makes the black iPhone look whitish.

You should totally pass this info on to the "I Want White!" crowd! :p

So OP, do you think the Apple bumpers have any advantage here? I think they have fancy metal buttons for the volume, but that's it. Oh, and thanks for this review BTW! :D

thanks unseenllama, forgot to also ask, how big is the headphone port for both? i still have my iphone 2g aux cable so it fit the recessed headphone port... thus fitting my iphone 4 w/ vue case on without a problem.. if you can take side by side pictures that would be great.. thanks again

There was pretty limited selection for day one cases. The reveal was probably the case I liked the best, but I won't be totally comfortable until i have the screen protected somehow..

What screen film does the OP have on their phone?

(I plan to get a vaja or sena case, but those won't be out until late july)

The headphone ports on both the Reveal and the Vue are adequate for a normal headphone. It seems that newer headphone jacks that come out are smaller to accommodate different cases.

Just got the black Griffin Reveal from Best Buy. I like it! :)

Is that the same material as the bumpers? They look a little more plasticy -- this is straight up rubber.
