I found out about them because I wanted to see if I could find a wireless solution for use with an old iPod, otherwise I would have never been looking. People who already have wired headphones, and aux cords, don't need to find wireless solutions, because they already have an inexpensive solution that does the job. Even if you showed them a BT dongle they might pass it up as what they're using is good enough. Yet for many of those same people, if the headphone jack is removed and they are shown a wireless product, they might wonder how they ever lived without it.

That's how I felt when I started using my BT dongle in my car. It changed my whole communting experience.
This technology was initially marketed for automotive aftermarket as it was viewed as the largest potential sales. Now the home and mobile systems market is addressed with Apple ax'ing the 3.5-mm connector.

Well that makes sense. I have pretty decent sounding MPOW dongle which sounds great in the car, which is a noisy environment. I doesn't sound as good when using with a pair of headphones in a quite environment. I'm hoping BT 5 and better technology will address that problem -- which it sort of has to if Apple is really going to lose the headphone jack.

Great idea, but it could look better and possibly be smaller.

Here's a concept for an Apple-designed one:

IMO it should be as small as possible and having playback controls isn't strictly necessary, with a lot of headphones having remotes these days and the phone still being reachable in your pocket.

Cool design, but I disagree regarding inline controls. Without them, it's a no go.

Well, if the audio jack does go away, I'll need an adapter of some sort and this one looks pretty good. Price is good. I'll wait and see what Apple has first, though. No way am I giving up my Bose Noise Canceling headphones. Hopefully, the market will be flooded with choices and I'll have a lot of research to do.

Bose just came out with Bluetooth noise canceling headphones.

Why the obsession with wireless audio? I can barely stand the pitch shifting and skipping of audio between my iPhone 4 and Mazda 3, and that's with the phone less than three feet away from the console. Is it really that much better on newer phones?

I don't think the phones make much difference. You need the newer Bluetooth headphones for better sound quality and no skipping.

Wow, this is changing the game for me again! Never thought about this! I was ready to skip the iPhone 7 for the lack of the headphone jack since I have some nice and expense studio headphones and I hate dongles.

I don't care how those things look, I want to know about the sound quality! Is this hi def audio? Just checked some Amazon reviews and it seems most of those things cut out some very low and very high frequencies. Which of them has the best sound quality? I need a 3 Hz to 100 kHz output.

This product (Griffin) looks rather interesting for me. I'm a V-Moda fan myself, and this would allow me to continue using my trusty V-Moda Vibe buds with upcoming products-- and give them in-line-"ish" controls to boot-- even if I go with a different brand of phone next time.

The expectation is that Apple will introduce lossless streaming with this announcement, and wireless audio to handle the extra bandwidth at full quality without compromising power over what's currently available. So, except for charging the headphones/dongles, performance should be as good as the headphones permit.

So I wouldn't buy anything until this announcement is made, and we see what Apple introduces next week.

Oh good! Now we can fill the landfills with more rubbish...Phone + headphone adapter. So much for green, Apple. Headphones aren't like the floppy drive....wired headphones aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

Yeah, but I like the ones I have and don't feel like plunking down a couple of hundred bucks extra on top of a new iPhone.

The new wireless noise canceling headphones are just as comfortable as the wired ones -- more comfortable, because no wires. I understand not wanting to spend more money, but wireless is the future. Someone gave me the non-noise canceling wireless Bose as a gift, and I haven't touched my wired headphone since. I've tried using this type of Bluetooth adapter dongle with wired headphones, but there's still the wire and the dongle to contend with. True wireless trumps it all.

I'd be so funny if they kept the 3.5-mm connector in the iPhone 7. All these rumors sources would be so discredited in one big FU!
