I have the 2012 baseline 13" macbook pro and when I open it I can hear this grinding noise, not any clicking noises. I heard it is because the screen is not aligned properly. Any suggestions?

This has been known to happen to the Unibody MB's, and happened with mine. The black bar above the heat vents has come off center. Close the MBP and gently realign the plastic black bar so that either sides aren't touching the aluminum. Room for error on either side is less than 1mm.

Worked, thanks

It might be a defect, or it might not be. My MBP does it, yours does it and all my friend's MBP's do it. I think it's just part of the design.

Ahh ;l, sucks that paying $1k+ for a laptop, and has many known defects

Next time you go to the Apple store, see if the display models do it. If they don't, you have a reason to take your MBP in to get looked at.

That plastic "cover" is the only disappointment I have with my Early 2011 MBP. When I carry the laptop like a book clutching the black plastic it creaks and pops.

Kind of cheesy.

It forces me to hold it from the other side when I carry my MBP like a book.

Do you mean the little black thing at the back? Mine has a gap (2mm) and when i press on it, it cracks and moves, also making me hold it on the other side.

Yes. This thing. It moves from left to right randomly. Mostly when you have your hand covering it while carrying it.
