Grok AI Voice Mode Arrives on Apple CarPlay

It's completely unlike Googling because it doesn't require any thinking on the part of the user, which discourages critical thinking about the answer you're given. When you Google something and then look through the different sites presented, you have to think about if those sites are reputable resources and then determine what's true based on what you read. AI—especially an audio-only AI response—takes away all of that and confidently declares information without any ability to verify the source of the info on your part. That's bad, because the vast majority of people aren't going to take the time to follow up and verify the information later.

30 years ago if you were to find an encyclopedia that had lots of info but some of it was straight up incorrect or presented in a way that wasn't accurate, you would not buy that encyclopedia and the company would be shamed for publishing incorrect information. Why aren't we similarly critical of AI?

Yes! that is why I use Grok, Chatgpt gets almost everything I ask voice mode wrong. I stoped using it.

It's still better at images, but Grok is getting closer by the minute.

Sounds like you might have some other issues not common to all users, or maybe just a horrible service area. I live and work rurally but never have music or audio books cut out or refuse to play and has enough buffer for those pockets where there are no cell service. Found music slow and jerky on my old 2021 Outback.

I also can't imagine not having a browser now in my car, simple and easy to use while in FSD if I need to look something up. It is all personal preference if I had your experience I would prefer CarPlay over Tesla for sure.

I agree CarPlay would be a nice option. However, I don’t miss CarPlay. The apps for music are actually pretty good. Any breaks in cell service are an issue for the entire ecosystem, not just Tesla navigation.

Never get logged out of Apple Music
And never get logged out of any music app.

Other than navigation which may or may not be important I find grok useful.

No voice commands. No AI. I am thriving." 👴🏼.

I won't use Grok, but I am looking forward to Siri with Gemini behind it for answering questions. I'm a curious guy and the ability to get quick concise answers while driving is great.

I've been using GPT for about 9 months now and I'm pretty happy with it overall. It's been good for helping me do research into things at work in so much as it points me in the right direction to then verify the information on my own before I make a decision. So for me it's more of an advanced search engine. And I make funny picture with it.

I know this is overly simplistic while people are using it to write code and edit books, I'm making funny cartoonish pictures of my cat flying airplanes and crap like that.

Yeah. I think the name grok is funny in a way. I was surprised about how good it could be. Asking random questions to see how it answers. The best part is it comes with the software on a Tesla. (Much of my circle now has one or more teslas)

I like grok better than ChatGPT. But yeah as you alluded to everybody’s workflow and trust of ai is different. Sometimes I just dk t care if ai wrong.

Because CarPlay sucks compared to Tesla’s system. And this is coming from a big CarPlay fan. I would say CarPlay is needed in every car EXCEPT for a Tesla.

It’s not that. It’s that grok is integrated into the navigation of teslas and the driver can request complex scenarios that would require more diversion of attention.

Oh I agree, the Tesla system is pretty good. It's a known issue that the Apple Music client in the Tesla forgets that shuffle mode is on quite often. And I don't get my Telegram messages like I did with Carplay.

Just picked up a 2026 Model Y Long Range last month. Completely in love with the car.

If you're not using any of the llm bots today, no one is going to change your mind about an llm bot in a car.

Sorry, I replied to a newer message first.

I do infact own a new Model Y. I have a few issues that are present in the Tesla system that do not exist under carplay. Shuffle mode turning off between drives, and Telegram not reading messages.

Sorry but kids don't have that type of attention span. By the time you get home, curiosity is gone.

I recall asking my uncle when I was 6 "how come when I throw this baseball up in the car on the freeway, the baseball doesn't fly behind me?". He couldn't explain it properly and I lost interest.

You're doing kids a disservice if you're actively discourging the use of llm bots.

There’s something I find strange it seems like the text is better than using the voice. It seems like the answers are different or better with when I type in the questions. and I mean with all of these things
