So last night I sent two friends a group text...they both told me they got it as a picture message (both on Sprint).

I checked the message I sent, and at the top it says "Group MMS" and not "Group Text" like before...

I checked in settings and didn't see anything that would change this. Is this maybe a bug in iOS 4?

FYI, I'm running iOS 4 jailbroken on a 3Gs.

Nevermind, I fixed it. Under Messages settings, there's an option for "Group Messaging", which I had to ON. I assumed this meant that you could send a text message to more than one person, but I guess that was for MMS only. After I turned it off, I sent another group text message, and this time it went through correctly as a text.

sorry for the quick post! doh!

As far as I know, that option under settings should be related to grouping replies to messages. Does it also affect how the messages are sent ?
If anyone can confirm this, I'm interested since I've developed an app to send group text but were I live there isn't that option under settings so I'm interested in understanding exactly what it does.

Group Messaging seems slightly confusing to me...

Given the written material released from Apple, the impression you get from it is that when you send a group text out, any replies sent back from any member of that group message is all grouped together in one thread. Having said that, it seems to function different then advertised...now when I send group messages out they are sent as an MMS not an SMS, even if it only contains text. Furthermore, and even worse, everyone that I messaged is able to see the full list of people I sent the message to. I dunno if this is how the function is intended to perform but it was certainly not explained that way.

Group MMS shows everyone who you're texting!

We just tried Group Messaging on. Everyone has to have it on (iPhone iOS4 - Settings - Messages - Group MMS turned on) but it works on SMS and MMS photos/videos.

I sent a photo to 4 people. All 4 could then see who I sent it to (which is scary because I had NO idea people could see that) - then one of them replied and my other friend replied back to her - and we all could see it. It was like IM'ing a group of friends.

Apple needs to talk about this more.... or else is this a major bug? Not sure I want some people to see my friends' contacts or who I am group messaging, ya know?
