Growl

Hello,

I am a new user of Mac, I've just bought a Imac 20''.

What are the purposes of 'Growl'? I noticed it was installed in my computer and it is related with adium and skype in my computer. Why?

Growl is a notifier app, it makes the little windows that say "Your MSN contact wants your attention!" and stuff like that in the corner. There's a prefpane for Growl in System Preferences, at the bottom, looks like a yellow claw.
