Hi I deleted the in host files to get round iphone errors. The wife's standard iphone 4, was playing up; I restored to new firmware as it is not JB and pretty standard. It threw a 1013 error and I could not get it to go any further than 1013. Ended up going to friendly neighbor which restored it.
Has the removal of the from the host file caused the error on a standard restore.
many thanks, while scratching my head!

Removing it should fix the problem, not solve it. Manually open your hosts file and check. One way to get around the error is to download TinyUmbrella and kick it out of recovery. Works every time.

Flush the DNS cache after removing the line

    sudo dscacheutil -flushcache
