hi guys, I have a Galaxy PC GTX 285 and I want to flash to MAC rom.

Here is my card:
11041271.jpg

The old chip is SST25VF512 , I changed to SST25VF020.
The nvflash tools show can not support SST25VF020,but it works fine.

I have download the EVGA's GTX 285 rom for MAC and flashed (I think Galaxy GTX 285 is ordinary version, because I can use the ordinary driver in the Windows ) , but in the MAC10.5.8 can not recognize the card. After that I try the Nvidia mac dirver for GTX 285, black screen!

Who can tell me why? Wrong rom?

Can't tell you a darn thing until you give us some more info.

1. Which mac Pro are you using?

2. What messages did you get from Nvflash when you flashed?

3. With Apple ROM, does the GTX285 work in Windows? DOS?

4. Can you reflash original ROM and make card work again in Windows & DOS?

5. What type monitor are you working with? Connected how?

6. What other GPUs do you have on hand?

These are the sorts of questions I would like to not ask...ie, nice if people asking for help cover these bases and save me typing them out.

If your card has HDMI as shown in photo, that may be a problem, or maybe not. So far I think I am the only person to get a flashed GTX285 to work. A couple other people have tried and turned a couple $400 cards into doorstops. Not a good choice for a "first flash". Enthusiasm is good, but research and articulation are better.

Detail INFO

Rominator thanks for your help, here is details

1.I try not in a Mac Pro , is my PC installed the PC version Mac:apple:. My pc mother board is Intel s5000vxn ,two Xeon 5335 Quad Core CPU, 4GB FB DIM,very similar as 2008 Mac Pro.

2.Every time I flash the new chip, nvflash program shows ok. I try to restore and backup to several times for sure the replaced chip working normally.

3.I am not sure the rom is real MAC which I used. I download from this Forums. The file name is evga285m.rom (156KB). But in the Zeus, it is still says a PC ROM. here is the Zeus' info:

you are using hackintosh?

I'm gonna guess we have another language barrier issue

I'm going to use ALL CAPS so you will understand more easily.

IF YOU AREN'T RUNNING AN EFI MAC, YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO USE WHATSOVER FOR AN EFI ROM !!!!!!! You have successfully wasted both my time and yours.

Go to a HACKINTOSH forum.

Everything you have done so far is a 100% COMPLETE AND TOTAL WASTE OF TIME !!!!

IF YOU DON'T HAVE AN EFI MAC THEN RUNNING AN EFI ROM IS OF NO USE WHATSOEVER !!!!!

I See ,but still puzzled

The MAC version card can using in a hackintosh computer or not? As I knew the MAC version card can direct support Windows .

As you said need a MAC Pro (Real EFI based motherboard), the MAC OS can Driver the EFI Display Card?

I thought after I flash the card successful, the hackintosh can direct drive the card. Need not install 3rd part driver. I will try a MAC FX4800 in my hacintosh .

In my working place, there are many Mac Pro, Mac Server,I can find a real MAC Pro test the card.

I have a MAC but a MacBook and I just have fun with the flashing...

Thanks, Rominator and Cindori.

OK, i'll try again.

Sorry if I used lots of technical lingo before.

You have a HACKINTOSH computer.

This forum is for MACINTOSH computers.

HACK ≠MAC

When you have questions regarding a MACINTOSH computer, you should ask questions on a MACINTOSH forum.

When you have questions with a HACKINTOSH, you should ask questions on a HACKINTOSH forum.

HACK ≠MAC

If there is something above that you still can't understand, by all means please let me know.

hi Rominator, I have confirmed , and I was wrong.

When I install MAC FX 4800 in my hackintosh, the same situation happened just like my flashed GTX 285.

I will try in a MAC PRO.:D

Thanks for your help

test result : Working Success!

I have tested the flashed GTX285. Not test the 2nd port because it is HDMI.
But the DVI works OK. Here is the details:

MAC PRO : 2008 Quad-Cord XEON 8GB ram
DISPLAY: PHLIPS 1920 1200
DISPLAY CARD: NV GTX 285 flashed

Hi all,
Can anyone tell where the rom chip is on an evga 285 GTX PC version?
Also where do you find a 256k rom chip? Does Mouser have any?
