Mac Pro 4,1->5,1. I have a NVIDIA GTX 980 4GB card I bought from MVC in December 2016. I have been using it since that time with the DVI port with no problems, work computer (graphics, PhotoShop), no gaming.

This week, when replacing my Apple Cinema HD monitor with a Viewsonic VP2785-4K monitor I discovered that the DisplayPort and HDMI ports were not providing a signal to the Viewsonic even though I have the latest driver installed. So I went back to my Apple monitor in the meantime which works perfectly.

Late yesterday I tried again and discovered that one of the DisplayPorts was working, for about 8-10 hours anyway. This morning, none of them work again.

I have now read that NVIDIA had port issues with that particular card series, and I am thinking I should just discard the card and get something else. I don't like having to throw all that money away, but perhaps the card can be repaired. I would like to hear from anyone with similar experience with the card.

::edit:: I just now discovered if I have my old Cinema display and the new Viewsonic hooked up at the same time, they work as dual monitors with no issues re: DisplayPort. Problem is, I don't need dual monitors.

I had a similar thing happen to me. I actually use a Apple 27inch LED Display on my cMP, connected via display port. A few weeks ago I bought a 28 inch Samsung 4K monitor. Plugging in the monitor to the display port, I couldn’t get any boot screen at all. However letting it boot in MacOS and waiting a long while, it would finally turn on. Booting in Windows worked better.

I ended up returning the monitor for other reasons, but I did place a order for a EFI flash RX580 to replace my GTX680.

I should also say, that when the monitor did work in macOS, even at 60hz, it felt very stuttery to me. My biz partner does run dual 4K monitors on his, and doesn’t bother him. So YMMV. To me Seemed to work better on windows. (Which I never really use)
