I'm thinking Apple will round it to a nice $100 extra.

And why wouldn't you be able to buy a phone? I'd buy it and say I'm going on a pay as you go deal at Rogers (Canada dude here), and activate the phone in-store if necessary. It costs about $60 to start a new pay as you go account.

Plus, why can't you just buy an iPhone in store like everyone has all along? All those unlocked iPhones weren't tied to an account. My buddy went to the US to get an iPhone, and simply bought it and came home.

i already have a 2 year contract with my old iphone, can i get the new iphone and have them use that sim card?

The way they want you to do it is to have you start a 2 year contract over again the day you get your 3G iPhone. I would wait and see how things go because you never know.

Keep in mind that the 3G data plan is $10 more a month so there might be some changes that need to be made on your account depending on how things work out.

...Hell, just sign up for it and then cancel it the same day, pay the ETF and have a great day.

So, are you inferring that you are required to sign a contract with AT&T? I'm pretty sure that is what everyone else is saying.

Good job figuring it out.

How can you have a phone that is not available to people with bad credit? In any case, you can feel free to buy them all over Craigslist and eBay the same day so don't worry about it to whoever needs one without a contract.

ok, you have a point with the etf but it seems like a waste

That's an option, not the only way to do it. Watch and see, show me a phone on the market right now that you can't buy without a contract genius.

It is, there will be other ways around it once it comes out, nothing is set in stone, especially "Mandatory 2 Year Contracts". There is plenty of people that will go prepaid.

... Which is precisely what I will do. I'm only going to be in Canada the first 3 weeks of July, then I'm off to Seoul. I will need to unlock it for use in Korea.

I'll be in Seoul as well...and am wondering, why is there no 3G launch in Korea? If I saw correctly, Korea was not listed on the keynote presentation.
