Yes, it just needs to be formatted (on the Mac) with ExFAT or FAT32. This is how Boot Camp Assistant works. All it does is set aside a part of your HDD formatted under ExFAT so you can install Windows.

All versions of Windows from Windows XP x64/Windows Server 2003 SP1 can read GPT (GUID Partition Table) disks.
