I could not watch more than 5 minutes of this show. MTV needs to do go back to showing videos instead of reality TV, or just change their name to RTV, or just go away completely. This show will breed new D-bags because of the age of the average MTV viewer is probably right around 17. When those 16,17 & 18 year olds grow up and are able to flock to the Jersey Shore they will act the same exact way the cast of the show acts. It is a perpetual cycle of d-baggery.

As with all things on television... Viewers are not the customer. The advertiser is.

The advertiser is being sold a bunch of morons, to whom they can advertise their wares.

So all of the negative publicity increases the show's viewership, and the advertiser gets that bigger audience. It's all about outrage.

Look at the "talk" shows of the 80's/90's. Chair throwing, race-baiting, etc.

It's really depressing when you have a show that you love, and you look at the audience that the advertiser was expecting. I watch hockey. Back when hockey was actually televised in the USA on a national level, the only ads you got during the highlight show were from beef jerky companies and the military. Apparently, they're not expecting a highbrow audience. No Lexus commercials for me. :)

Can someone explain to me the point of threaded eyebrows on men?

Threaded and plucked eyebrows on guys are completely unacceptable, unless the guy is a drag queen.

However, that does not mean that eyebrows should not be reasonably maintained. Trimming and such is more than OK. Nothing is more creepy than when a guy has that inch long stray eyebrow hair. Yuck.

What is with the tanning? Their skin looks like it just came out of a leather tannery with orange dye added. Who are they trying to look "good" for? I also don't understand why it would take these guys more than 30 seconds to gel up their hair. I guess I just don't understand, must be an East Coast thing.

On the point about advertisers: a couple of them (Domino's, IIRC, and perhaps others) have actually pulled out of their time slots for Jersey Shore because of the "controversial" idiocy of its protagonists. Some Italian-American groups have protested the show, as well.

We Tivo'ed the first episode and, after watching it, we wanted to throw our television out the front window. I have to hand it to MTV, they obviously worked very hard to top themselves when it comes to making crappy reality shows.

I like the show and find it pretty entertaining. If you have seen some of the cast on the late night shows, they're pretty down to earth. Just because I wouldn't dress/talk/dance/etc like that, doesn't make them douche bags.

Get out your tinfoil hats, conspiracy theory time :D

MTV probably has a deal with the TV manufacturers. They air programming that makes you want to throw your TV out the window, in the hopes that you will actually throw your TV out the window. Then, you have to buy a new TV. MTV gets a kickback from the TV manufacturers for each new TV sold.

Yeah, I especially thought the down to earth scumbag that full on punched the chick was down to earth, NOT, or the two on leno that showed their knowledge by telling the world that Hugo Chavez was Lionel Richie, That Cheney tried to shoot George Bush, Makes us PROUD to be American......:(
MTV= Lowest common denominator= Scum Society.:mad:

I live in Jersey and I can attest that these Guidos and Guidettes are all over the Jersey Shore. Lots of Guidos and Guidettes in Northern NJ too.

It's funny the Guidos compete with each other to see who has the biggest chests (most are on roids). The Guidettes do the same thing with other Guidettes--they compete to see who has the biggest breasts (almost all are fake).

These folks are also what make weekend nights on Manhattan hellish.

Let's get one thing straight, they're not Americans. They're from New Jersey.

I also LOL'd when the health bill came out of the Senate with a 10% tax on tanning parlors.
