What is this thread about? I'm not even sure what to google to work it out.

Scroll down a bit to see the roid rage inflicted on that girl Sookie. I don't think it is right to hit anybody, let alone a girl. What a d-bag. !
The dude did get arrested and I think just recently went through the court system. And the guy that hit the chick wasn't a guido, more like a frat guy. And the frat guys were the ones making problems, not the guidos. So who's worse?
you should be banned for posting this.
I always thought guido was a derogatory term.
Yeah, gay dudes have way too much pride and fashion sense to come out dressed like that... unless it's on Halloween.NO! These guys are cheesy straight guys!
Give us poor homos some credit!![]()
It is, but it's currently a socially acceptable one unlike "wop" which I don't believe is socially acceptable anymore.I always thought guido was a derogatory term.
What's worse is that I'M from New Jersey and these morons are from Staten Island and elsewhere who come to the Jersey Shore and make asses out of themselves and give the state a bad name. Of course it already has a bad reputation because of all the political corruption, etc... but that's another story.
I stopped going to Seaside Heights back in the late 80's because of the influx of "city folk" who brought their bad mannerisms with them and I found a different beach to go to.
Think about the advent of "reality tv" for a moment: The first "Real World". It was groundbreaking. Fast forward to "Jersey Shore" or whatever they call it. What a tragedy. The producers of this show should not be allowed to work in the industry ever again. And the "talent" on the show should be immediately spayed or neutered so that they cannot replicate.![]()
On the point about advertisers: a couple of them (Domino's, IIRC, and perhaps others) have actually pulled out of their time slots for Jersey Shore because of the "controversial" idiocy of its protagonists. Some Italian-American groups have protested the show, as well.
We Tivo'ed the first episode and, after watching it, we wanted to throw our television out the front window. I have to hand it to MTV, they obviously worked very hard to top themselves when it comes to making crappy reality shows.
It is.
Edit: Actually, allow me to elaborate.
As far as I understand it, the term "guido" is usually used as a derogatory comment toward an Italian American. However, not all "IA's" fall into the category. Those being called guidos are the ones that look like the idiot in the OP. So basically all guidos are Italian American but not all Italian Americans are guidos.

Lethal
No, bigots will use the term on anyone who is Italian.
Really? Because I've only ever seen this term used when displaying pictures bearing resemblance to those posted in this thread.
I suppose when used on pictures, you need someone who obviously looks a certain way. But the term isn't used just when describing pictures. I've told people that my dad's family lives in Knightsville (a specific neighborhood in Cranston, RI) and have gotten back "yeah, there are a lot of you guidos there". To me, the use of "you" implies that I am part of that group and I assure you I look nothing like those in the pictures in this thread. The only way I can fit is if it is a derogatory term for ALL people who can be identified as Italians, be it by looks or by having an Italian sounding name or just by lucky guess.
The latest Saturday Night Live show made fun of them bahaha is was great!

One of the groups is NIAF - The National Italian American Foundation.

Niether is socially acceptable or ever was.
Let us suppose MTV came out with a new show called "Alabama Shore" and had a promo for the show with a voice over going "follow four ni****s while they [insert some racial stereotype here]". How long do you think it would take Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton to not only call for an advertiser ban, but to start a lawsuit?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!
Starts around 33:06. Hys-friggin-terical !!!
Being socially acceptable and being derogatory are independent of each other though. Go back 100 years and no one would bat an eye if a white dude referred to a black dude as a n******. Obviously that has changed.Niether is socially acceptable or ever was.
