An unreleased 15-inch MacBook Air with a processor "on par" with the M2 chip has been spotted in App Store developer logs, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The long-rumored laptop will likely be released by WWDC in June.

The report indicates that the chip in the new MacBook Air configuration spotted in the logs has an 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU, just like the M2 chip, along with 8GB of RAM. The laptop has the model identifier "Mac 15,3" and is listed as running macOS 14, which is expected to be announced at WWDC alongside iOS 17 and other updates. The new Air is also listed with a display resolution equal to that of the 14-inch MacBook Pro.

There have been conflicting reports about which chip the 15-inch MacBook Air will use, but the developer logs and Gurman saying the M3 chip is "coming later" suggest that the initial 15-inch model will be powered by the M2 chip, like the 13-inch model.

A larger MacBook Air was first rumored in 2021, with production of 15-inch display panels reportedly ramping up in recent months. It's unclear exactly when the laptop would be released, but it will likely be announced by WWDC, which begins June 5. Apple announced the 13-inch MacBook Air with the M2 chip at WWDC last year.

Apple is also working on an updated 13-inch MacBook Air, according to Gurman.

I think Apple is looking at what chips powers the device secondary to things like screen. Also, these things are so fast enough already, even if it had a M3 for the target audience, that Word document is not gonna type any faster or your playlist is not gonna sound any different. If you need a bigger screen MacBook thats more affordable, and you need it now, here it is. When it gets M3 in the fall, who ever needs a 15 inch MacBook, happens to get it with the latest SoC.

I am on a M1 MBP and I can't justify upgrading anytime soon. 2026 is looking like my next upgrade cycle.

I love the form factor of the MacBook Air. I am just very spoiled with the display of my 16" MacBook Pro. I do not want to miss ProMotion and HDR support. I also value 2x native retina scaling, something that the Air doesn't offer. This is reason alone for me not to get one. For most people though, a 15" Air will be a great buy.

Big disappointment if it turns out to be M2
Apple needs to ship all MBA with the same M2, until they actually have a M3 availability. No point to mix and match AS processors. Should say at some point now they use this new SoC, an even better deal for the line. In comparison the M1 Max/Ultra Studio Mac is an another oddity given the M2 Max MBP availability. Yeah I think it bugs people that entire products are not updated vs something else that is.

Ahh! I was really hoping it’ll be M3.

No thanks, I'll wait for the M3/OLED model.
No logical reason for Apple to release it with an M3 chip when sales are down 40% and they'll likely remain down for most of this year. Smarter to save the M3 for next year so they can update entire Mac line up.

A 15" MBA with M3 would throw off the rest of the Mac line up even more than it already is.

iMac = M1
Mac mini = M2/M2 Pro
Mac Studio = M1 Max/M1 Ultra
Mac Pro = Intel
13" MBA = M2
15" MBA = M3 ???
14" and 16" MBP = M2 Pro/M2 Max

A 2024 M3-series chip release across entire Mac line up (iMac, Mac mini, 13" and 15" MBA, and 14" and 16" MBP) would be a nice was to boost Mac sales again for the early M1 Mac buyers from 2020 and 2021

It's not anymore how much power it has, it's about how much power it can deliver at the minimum wattage possible.
