Skybox seems to now be available on the AVP and its Quest version works very well for playing back SBS MKVs, so it might be worth a try if you already have the rips.

What is an SBS MKV? Is it different from a standard MKV rip? I bought "300" 3D for testing but doesn't seem to do anything.

Yes, but what do you differently in MakeMKV to allow it to work? As I said my MakeMKV rip of a 3D title just plays in 2D.
