Interesting to know what Apple with do with a cheaper HomePod.

They don't have a good AI so the only thing they can push the device on, is sound quality.
But they can't keep the same sound quality and make one a lot cheaper.

1st, if it sounds good it will hurt the sales of the current model.

So it will need to sound a lot worse, so you have a poor AI, combined with worse sound, for a price, probably still higher than the competition.

What's "they don't have a good AI"?

The HomePod's AI is as good as any other in the market, and more secure for Home Automation, speaking of which, HomeKit simply kills Google and Amazons offerings, no chance.

For asking random questions, people don't do that, and it's better Siri silence than false information that Google's device says.

All of those new AirPods features should come to a second generation of AirPods without having to create another product line. It’s a natural progression of the product. Of course when the obsession is finding ways to get customers to spend more money then the solution is to create pro versions and charge more money for them. It’s one thing to do it with Macs and iOS devices, it’s stupid to do it with accessories.

Yeah, making better models and charging more for them!? How dare they! /s

No, but suckers are born every minute.

Explains Android market share.

I bought my wife a set of air pods and we love them. I, sadly, am way too large to use them and they don't stay in my ear at all. Most other ear buds offer silicone sizers, but due to the way the charging case is molded to the pods you can't charge them with sizers installed.

I'd love to get myself a set, but this one size fits few approach is not going to cut it.

Really beautiful news regarding AirPods. Nearly everyone who buys these absolutely loves them. A higher end version with maybe crisper treble would be incredible. I've been using wired earphones for years which always after a year, the cable wears/snaps near to the 3.5mm jack - even the Atomic Flloyd Super Darts which had Kevlar cable & were designed to last did the same - their customer service was a true disgrace.

I've had the AirPods for over a year now, wear them daily and absolutely LOVE THEM. So easy to charge & carry around. Great bass quality - just a cleaner treble would be the icing on the cake :)

Yep, not a fan of Apple going about it like this.

AirPods are already a hit, so what do they do....try & make even more money out of them.

The greed.

I'm excited to see how they improve upon an already great product in the airpods, I've been holding off on buying a pair since my current BT ones are doing ok. Hopefully these new ones launch around next Spring.

For What it’s worth, I found the AirPods to meet my expectations in almost every level. The sound is adequate, convenience, the battery life, ect. The AirPods is that one purchase that do not hesitate to purchase again for version two.

What I would like to see changed with AirPods in the future, is a hands-free ‘hey Siri’ capability without having to double tap, or maybe even some type of touch capacitive volume controller where you can slide your finger up and down the AirPod.
This is what I love about the Apple Watch. You can just roll the crown up or down for the volume. LOVE IT!

I think it makes sense to have two versions of AirPods. The first model will have a price drop and I bet they'll start bundling them with iPhone as soon as they remove the lighting port.
I'd love an in-ear version of them, or at least a way to provide some sound isolation.
Wireless CarPlay needs to be more prevalent before they drop the lightning port

The only downside is after a year of fairly regular use, battery life is down a bit...

I don’t know what the margins are with AirPods. Is adding noise cancelling so expensive it would require a price increase?

You mean stupid for us, smart for them?

I would also speculate that the upgraded airpods may use 24 bit 48 khz aac to compete with aptx hd.
Hi res lossless would be great if apple could pulleit off wireless.

Awesome. My airpods have been the best pair of headphones I have ever worn.

I think when people criticise it for its lack of sound quality, they miss the point that any product is a combination of various pros and cons. I like that my are extremely portable, light and comfortable to use. I can leave them in my ears for hours and not feel any fatigue or discomfort. Sound quality is good enough for me. And let's face it - the best sounding headphones is moot if they are so uncomfortable that I won't wear them.

Wonder what they will call this pair of "pro" airpods...?

As long as the HomePod only offers such crippled functionality, I will stick with my Sonos speakers.
Pity, I really would like to try the HomePod, but for now, it is a useless, expensive gadget to me.

...of the potential of offering a less expensive set for people?

Would you object to the current AirPods at $99 with the new version being $160+?

At $99 the current AirPods would be a SMASH hit for the holidays.

Just my two cents.

If Apple are going to increase the AirPods cost, that’s brave! Very brave!

I love mine but whilst they sound pretty good, I wouldn’t put them against a £200 pair or more as those will sound better IMO. Then again I find my AirPods to sound far better then Beats headphones.

A rare negative post from you I must say. But this is the new Apple where they seem to want to do this with their products.
