People actually pay money to read this guy’s articles?!
Yup! I actually read a post from someone elsewhere where they were publicly coming to the conclusion that “they found out about ‘some latest rumor’ here. I had gotten it in the newsletter, but hadn’t gotten around to reading it yet and still ended up finding out. Makes me wonder what I subscribe for (or words to that effect).” There’s a lot of inertia, so he’s bound to be seen as the “Mac analyst” for some time into the future. But, no real contacts in Apple (and no real scoops to be had), it’s bound to fade.

Might just not buy an iPhone for the first time. Well, there was that year that was really busy that I missed the 5s. Foldable is tempting, but my concern is we’ll have an iPad vs. iPad 2 moment where the second gen is just so much better and the first gen has some issues. Even the iPhone 3G with faster internet and GPS was a big bump in functionality. If the fold doesn’t sell well, they might drop the price also.

My main concern is no telephoto lens, followed by price. No shot I’m upgrading that thing more than every three years. So hold onto the Pro for another year, iPhone Upgrade Program paid off, give it to my daughter who will be turning 14 a few months after and will probably be old enough for a phone. Damn I’m getting old. Then get the iPhone Fold 2. Idk, we’ll see. After 3D printing the rumored mockup, I really love the form factor and how it feels in my hands.

So this is an ‘S’ year according to Gurman? 🙄🤦‍♂️
  1. Under-display Face ID
  2. Smaller punch-hole front camera
  3. A20 Pro chip
  4. New chip packaging
  5. Apple C2 modem
  6. Variable-aperture main camera
  7. New stacked camera sensor
  8. Higher storage 2tb tier
  9. Battery life improvement
  10. 16GB RAM
Ahhh, okay.
I’m anticipating most of that except it will be a smaller pill instead of hole punch and no 16GB RAM. With current RAM prices, and knowing Apple, I don’t expect them to ever increase the amount of RAM again, lmao! I just know Tim is sitting there saying in executive meetings “I told you guys we never should’ve upgraded any of the RAM! We held out so long. Especially on the Macs. IT WAS FINE.”

With Snow Leopard style updates to iOS coming, they’ll probably optimize memory usage quite a bit and then brag about it on stage at WWDC. “Uses 25% less memory!” or whatever. I’m almost certain that will be a big focus, because Apple will not want to upgrade RAM for some time. Having full control over hardware and software, they will use better software to save money here.

Lucky for the Applesumer, Apple have long term purchase price protection. ie, they would already have a set price and wouldn’t be currently affected by any increase for the 18.

I wonder if they’ll do any external design tweaks, like maybe rounding the edges more on the camera plateau to prevent scuffing. Otherwise, totally expected for it to be an “S” year after a big design change with the 17 Pro.

Would love to have a black model this year.
How can you say that it was a big design change???

With iPhone 17 & 17 Pro/Pro Max being major upgrades with design change and significant camera upgrades, definitely expecting the 18 series to be a minor update with only chip upgrades. Hopefully the colors this year will be good. Extremely happy with the Orange 17 Pro/Pro Max and hope the new color will be just as bright and not too dark. Also looking forward to seeing the first foldable from Apple.

In the next edition of his "Power On" newsletter, Gurman said "iPhone 18 Pro gonna brings the most unbelievable advanced technology to Pro users."

as long as they bring back the black phone i'd be happy, didn't go for the 17 pro this year beacause of the ****** colours

So what matters is design so you tell your friends you have the latest one?

There's no design! It's a screen and the rest is settled.
Is it?
I’d love if someone created a design that wouldn’t require a protective case anymore and not look like a rugged construction site kind of phone…

That's not "design" that material science.
I partly disagree. My Desire S had some pretty heavy falls and while the aluminium frame got heavily damaged, the screen never broke. The Desire S didn’t have a screen that went until the edge.

I’d say it’s design, engineering, and, ok, material science.
