Just a few hours after claiming that the first Macs with M4 chips are launching "very soon," Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has followed up with a slightly more specific timeframe. In his latest social media post today, he said an "M4 Mac launch" is on Apple's schedule for next week, but he did not mention a specific day.

"Busy week for Apple next week: Apple Intelligence on Monday, then M4 Mac launch, then earnings results on Thursday," he posted.

In another social media post today, Gurman said that Apple is inviting journalists and content creators to a hands-on experience in Los Angeles next Wednesday, and he believes this means the new Macs would need to be announced before then.

In another twist, leaker Sonny Dickson today claimed that he heard the new Mac mini with five USB-C ports might launch this week instead. Dickson has revealed some accurate details about upcoming Apple products through leaked cases and dummy models, but some of his hardware-related claims have proven to be inaccurate.

In any case, it looks like Apple will announce the first Macs with M4 chips in around a week from now at the latest, based on these latest claims. It's still not entirely clear if the announcements will be part of an online event, like the "Scary Fast" event on October 30 last year, or if the products will be announced in press releases on the Apple Newsroom website only. There is still time left in October for Apple to invite the media to watch an online event, but the window for that is gradually coming to a close. We'll see!

Here is everything that Apple is likely to announce in the coming days:

The entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M4 chip allegedly leaked in a few unboxing videos earlier this month, and it was shown to be a November 2024 model in those videos. If the videos are legitimate, that means the first Macs with M4 chips might not arrive to customers until next month, even if they are announced within the next week or so.

I think an invite will go out tomorrow for a video style event (similar to last year) with smaller press briefings.

Very excited to see the new mini.

If they actually update the peripherals then that would be amazing (I mean more than just a move to USB C).

I really hope they move to Thunderbolt 5 on the Pro/Max MacBook Pro’s as that will pave the way for better stand alone displays.

Also a larger consumer iMac (although this isn’t happening) would make several family members update. I don’t think they need an iMac Pro at all as that space is plenty filled….a larger consumer iMac that comes with peripherals and even just an M4 is more than enough for most consumers. They just want a bigger screen.

I wonder will Apple offer a "dock" with additional I/O ports for the new Mac mini.
Would be interesting. Sonnet sells rack mount kits with PCIe slots for Mac mini & Studio. Not what you're looking for, but still interesting.

I'd be curious to see if Apple could shrink the Mini down to stick PC dimensions, call it the Mac nano or something? Also curious about maybe a blade server? I don't know if I'd want one, but would be an interesting proof-of-concept.

I don't really get the excitement over these M4 Macs. They will be a barely noticeable spec bump and only noticable for those people who do heavy video work. For everyone else this is just another year of another spec bump until Apple decides to redesign the MacBook Pro. It will be same colors, same battery life, same screen, everything else with a minor bump in speed.

I get the Mac Mini and some excitement around that, but everythign else is just a big shoulder shrug.

I have never been more excited for an Apple product refresh. My M2 Pro Mini is still an amazing machine that I use 8 hours a day and I can’t wait for the upgrade!
I hear you. I am not a day one adopter typically, but in this case, I am at a point of purchase. So, this one seems awesome to me. I won't be reading specs out of curiosity only, but as a potential user. Very cool!

Does Apple own an apartment in LA for media demos? I know they have one in NYC.

I think there will be an invite tomorrow for an event Tuesday, media hands-on Wednesday and earnings call Thursday. Very similar to last year (including 6 day heads up on event). Tuesday also seems like the best day to release 18.1.

Just hoping for external PSU for mini. One-cable setup with monitor would be sweet.

If Apple releases all of these, it will be the first time that this many Mac’s have been on the same generation. All that’s left is Studio and Pro, which would require M4 Ultra, and since there was no M3 Ultra, I’m guessing there will absolutely be an M4 Ultra, and if this rumor stands, all Mac’s will be M4. Nice.
