Apple will begin selling new MacBook Air models featuring its latest M4 chip by March "at the latest," mirroring the time frame of the M3 MacBook Air launch last year, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Apple last updated the MacBook Air line in March 2024.

Gurman's comments appeared in his latest Power On newsletter, suggesting the reporter is no further forward on learning the exact release timing of new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models. Six days ago Gurman claimed that the machines would be introduced "within weeks."

A launch has been thought to be imminent for a while now. In fact, it was originally rumored to be planned as Apple's first hardware launch of the year. However, that is now likely to be the iPhone SE 4, which is expected to be announced on Wednesday.

Apple inadvertently confirmed the upcoming M4 ‌MacBook Air‌ machines back in December when the macOS Sequoia 15.2 software update included files for unreleased "Mac16,12" and "Mac16,13" machines. The files referenced the "‌‌MacBook Air‌‌ (13-inch, M4, 2025)" and the "‌‌MacBook Air‌‌ (15-inch, M4, 2025)."

Since then, we've just been waiting for the new ‌MacBook Air‌ models to launch. As Gurman pointed out last week, existing stock of the M3 ‌MacBook Air‌ models is dwindling, suggesting new models should be arriving soon.

I have the M2 Air. Waiting until the M6 to upgrade, as the very earliest rumors are there will be a redesign.

Assuming this can drive two external displays like the base model M4 (not Pro) MacBook Pro this could be a big year for upgrades at companies with two screen docking setups at their desks. I know this is what I‘ve been waiting for to move away from my M1 MacBook Air. (Performance is still totally fine. Weight matters to me so I don’t want the heavier MacBook Pro. Ideally Apple would bring back the 12“ MacBook with an M4 chip 🙏)

I read that it will still support two external displays, now also with the screen open.

Let's get 'em out so I can decide between an M4 Air and Pro and upgrade my M1 Mini. Make it so, Tim.
I was in the same situation, but pulled the trigger on an M4 Pro 14" 3 weeks back.

Still waiting for work, my M1 Air only has 8GB and is creaking under the Sequoia strain (those trees take up so much space! 🤣 ). Can't justify a Pro for work, so it will have to be an Air and there is no point getting an M3 at this point, so I've been drumming my fingers on the table for about 2 months now!

Yeah, I was lucky, the M1 Air works for me, because I have a single 44" display attached to the dock, everywhere else in the company it is 2 24" or 27" displays, but "lucky" for the users, they are all on Windows.

Why do you need 32gb of RAM on a MBA?
I'm hoping for this too. It would be for occassionally light video editing, music making and (also light) compositing/color grading. e.g. in After Effects, the amount of RAM you have determines the length of the RAM-Preview you get.

I got 32GB on my main machine in 2012, running 64gb since 2020 - 32gb seems like a sweetspot for me atm. Although Apple sells RAM at 1000% premium, so it's kind of hurting just to think about dropping €430 on a meagre additional 16GB.

(p.s. - I'd bet on March 4th as the release date)

I'm waiting on this too. That and a nanotexture option

I'm bouncing between the 14" Pro and 15" Air. Enjoy that new MBP!
