I saw the name Luke Miani and checked out. If that guy has any information unique to what is already out there it’s probably false. 90% of his channel is regurgitating thoughts and ideas already put forth by better reviewers or analysts.

Might have already been suggested here, but the reference to the A-series chip might not have anything to do with iOS. Might mean the display can do Face ID and the CPU is needed for the local computation and chain of trust.

The TouchBar on the previous generation MacBook Pro had its own CPU and ran its own operating system separate from the Mac itself.

Won’t matter if it’s not actually called M1Ultra, which I highly doubt.
I think the processors especially made for pro end desktops like the Mac Studio and the Mac Pro will get their own letter.
X1 or P1 or something different, to differentiate them since they will most certainly be on a completely different upgrade timeline than the regular “M” series chips.
Also if the Mac Studio gets an M1max and an M1Ultra, what on earth would a MacPro get?
M1ultraProMax?
No.
So it’s completely possible for them to launch an M2 as an updated mobile/power efficient processor, and then announce the X1 or whatever specifically targeted at professional end desktops, where power efficiency doesn’t matter as much

You still sure about that? ?

There’s so much marketing momentum behind the M1, there’s no reason to suddenly introduce a P- or X-something.

Well this is way more Pro than I thought and thus the price will be too.

Looks like the two will be lucky to come in under $4500. Now I'm guessing $6k isn't out of the question. lol.

Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes ... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status quo. ... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things. ... They push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the people who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do. :)
Yeah, I love that think different quote. But in reality Apple is a pretty conservative company today which doesn't do extremely crazy things or is the first with many things.

I don't think anyone is taking the Miani renders seriously. He's a YouTuber, that's all.
Just a YouTuber who got a good tip.

I didn't know that guy before. But this time he was spot on. ? Also: There seems to be no larger iMac for the foreseeable future.

ahem…you still sure about that?

Kind of interesting how so many hours of YouTube videos were devoted to this March 8 event and completely missed these two products. Mac mini Pro/Max was a lock as far as most were concerned (for my needs would have preferred a mini pro/max option :) )

Apple certainly getting better at keeping things under wraps than in the last few years… I don't know how this stayed secrete until the last week before the event.

If we want to be truly fair, there have been rumors of a new 27" standalone display and a "pro" standalone Mac sized larger than the Mac mini and smaller than the Mac Pro for some time.

So the signs were arguably there, they were just sufficiently obfuscated that the actual specifics were not known until the past 24-48 hours.

Well, it didn't have the room for a HDD, but…

I pre-ordered it anyway.

I'm afraid that if they go 27" 5K-ish, we will get old tech with sub par HDR. There is no way I can get a new stand alone display that doesn't do HDR at least on the MacBook Pro level (they are great).

And that's exactly what happened.

Nice to have an option from Apple for non-video related creative work, though.

Tbh the design is a tad disappointing, I was expecting something sexy like the g4 cube we ended up with a glorified biscuit tin

I cancelled the above and bumped up the unified memory to 128GB. After all, I can't upgrade it after I have it. And I only live once, unlike James Bond.

I know some think that the price point is high, but the Mac Pro was way out of my league and the Mac Studio outperforms it. Of course things will change when they upgrade the Mac Pro, but still, this thing screams and at a lower price than the Mac Pro. I was going to get the MacBook Pro, but I use the computer at home now. It makes sense to get the Studio. Hear me talking myself into it to avoid buyer's remorse?
