Weird. The Sony XM5’s are a million times more comfortable to wear. Why Apple won’t make something similar is beyond me.
Unfortunately, the XM5s have make that horrible creaky plastic sound whenever you move or adjust them.

I fully understand why people might find the AirPods Max not compelling considering it's price, lack of analogue inputs, no way to use them without batteries etc.

What I don't understand is the need to even consider how someone might look with the headphones on their head. Why do we have this need to care, and even judge people based on what pair of headphones they might have on their head? People went out of their way to claim everyone using AirPods looked stupid with the stem. Why? Why do people feel this strange need for looking down on people solely based on they having some white stems coming out of their ears, or what headphones they might have on their head?

This is just such stupid behaviour. If I see someone with clothing I don't find compelling, I'm not going to walk around and have some kind of negative bias towards this person as a result of them not sharing the same clothing preferences as myself.

As far as over-ear headphones goes, the AirPods Max are rather neutral in their appearance. Such strange headphones to be reacting to. But even if someone walks around with over-the-top Skullcandy headphones, I don't see any reason why anyone should care about it. Let people use whatever they enjoy and stop acting like it's anything wrong with it.
Just my opinion my friend. It’s okay if I don’t care for the styling. Im not out to hurt you or other peoples feelings on the matter.

But seriously the airpod max look ridiculous.

I’m sure the sound and the ability to connect seamlessly with other Apple products is a plus, but the price is ridiculous. Better off just buying a cheap pair with similar features.

Very few people care.

Apple AirPod max isn’t a compelling product and it’s overpriced to boot.

I’m going to say it….

it looks stupid on people too.
It’s becoming a staple in tech. In my floor alone I counted over 10 people wearing them.

They look ridiculous... to you.

IMO it's a fallacy to try to objectify a matter that is entirely taste-based (fashion) - but of course you are welcome to do so if you so wish :)

I agree. Headphones are headphones. AirPods Max might be "99% finished", but they are 100% overpriced. Sony sells the XM5 for $399. Apple lists the AirPods Max at $549. Seriously? For what? Why would anyone other than a hardcore Apple fan choose the AirPods Max? Sony has been in the game for much longer. Their headphones are lighter and more comfortable. And they cost $150 less.

AirPods Max are a ridiculous price gouge. Drop them to $349 and I bet they sell quite well.

Im glad I paid the difference and got the AirPods Max. I have so many devices I need to clear out my pairing list twice a day with many other Bluetooth headphones. I don’t need to do this with AirPods.

Agreed. I find beanies and hats ridiculous but millions of people don’t.

I'm open to alternatives. I am mainly interested in two things:

  • very good ANC
  • very good call quality (good mic!)
An app that doesn't require a login!

I don't really need transparency and all the other stuff. I'm not walking around with them.
I also rarely listen to music. More often than not, I just put on a white noise app.

Ideally, the stuff would work as well over a cable as over bluetooth. But that's probably not a design goal these days.

I'm not interested in shoving stuff in my ear-canal. Over the ear works best for me.

I will only use it with Apple Hardware.

I love my AirPods Max, but they should have came with a USB-C connection from first release in December 2020.

The USB-C MacBook Pro was 2016: what a missed opportunity to go all in on USB-C at that point in time.

I agree. It seemed like the product launched a year late for some reason.

I'm not incredibly surprised that it's taking so long to make any changes to the Airpods Max beyond the charging point, or that they aren't being reconfigured simply to include all of the features of the Pros. I, and I imagine most people, don't use the Max's like I use the Pros and don't really feel I'm missing out by not having features like Adaptive Audio, etc, as I generally don't use them out in the street or in situations where people around me will suddenly and frequently start talking to me.

The headphones have also received audio tweaks over the years, which is one of the few and most consequential elements headphone companies tend to improve between iterations. If they're waiting for a significant audio development worthy of a complete design change, that move makes sense to me, rather than just seeing the same audio in a new package for no other reason than to have something new to sell.

I just plugged my old Koss porta pro 25$ and they sound better than anything Apple ever did. 👀

Feels like they're due this December. H2. USB-C. All the audio advancements Apple has made on AirPods and HomePods. Dec 2024 seems like a year too late.

I don’t get the Scary Fast event in general. I would think a pre Christmas event would be consumer oriented, not pro oriented. And something like a headphone upgrade would be perfect for this time period. Most of the other headphone makers are upgrading. For instance the new Bose headphones are getting really good reviews and at $429. are cheaper than the AirPods Max on sale. I’m in the market for new headphones but can see no reason to go for the AirPods Max at this point.
I got the new Bose Ultra over the weekend for a ridiculously low price. I tested them alongside my Bose QC45’s. Pretty much all the new “selling points” for the Ultras such as the “immersive audio” function, the touch volume, etc, are terrible. On top of that, personally, I find them incredibly uncomfortable to wear in terms of material used for the earcups and the clamping force. And I noticed zero difference between the 45’s and the Ultras in terms of sound quality, noice cancellation, and “aware mode”. The QC45’s are just as good and you can find them any day of the week for much cheaper than the Ultras. Just my two cents…

am in the market for new headphones.

it will either be these or Bose QC Ultra

would like to not have to keep/carry a lightning cable for the next several years

definitely! To be fair they aren't selling very well either so be it looks over value customers say no thanks. Do you agree?

Nope, I don’t agree. I also don’t disagree.

How do we know how well they are selling or not? As far as I know, there are no official or otherwise reliable sales numbers.

About call quality, you'll never get good call quality from a bluetooth headphone, without getting too technical it's basically a limitation of bluetooth that make even the best ones sound worse than the microphone from a pair of wired earpods.

OK, so is the call quality better when you connect them via cable?

I currently use Bose QC25, which I kind of like (mainly due to the lack of an app and the fact that I can supply my own rechargeable AAA batteries). I just need to get new ear-pads for it.
