Not sure if I should go through hassle of trying to sell it on Craigslist for a little bit more money or just give it to Apple.

It all depends on how much of a hassle you want to go through. Easy way is to just give it to Apple trade in. You can probably get a few more bucks on Craig’s list or eBay dealing with different folks etc. is it worth your time? I just joined the IUP so I’m glad next year I would have just paid 50% of the phone and replace it with a new one. No more placing ads etc for a few more bucks.

If I upgrade, I will be giving my X to Apple. Just much easier.

On a serious note, I am looking for a mint 256 x. Anyone selling? I’ll pay $650! Thanks

I’m considering the iUP but annual sell on your own is getting old. Getting low ball offers and possible eBay chargebacks. Those seem like things that happen all too often.

This. This is always a risk of trying to squeeze out that extra $75-100.

Say you list it for $650 on Swappa, a pretty fair average of what 64gb in "good condition" are selling for right now (not listed but recent sold), you have a $20 Swappa fee, 2.9%+$.30 paypal fee and $12 shipping. So you net $600.

Is that $75 extra worth it to you to get empty box or otherwise scammed (it's not the condition seller claimed etc)? Potentially being out a phone and money. That's the question. Not to me this year.

And the other side of the equation is your renting a phone for a year with nothing to show for it after a year. And after Year 2,you will have paid for the 1st phone. Never a winning proposition financially. But I get some folks must have the latest and greatest every year. I went through that for 5 cycles, buying each outright. I stopped 2 cycles ago.

Cutting edge tech new each year for $500 a year (assuming trade-in no private sale) isnt the most terrible deal in the world either.

You can't get much for $45/month these days; some people spend 1/3 of that just on streaming like Nextflix/hulu. Some spend that much per month on fast food and Starbucks.

Especially if you use your phone for work/making money; and may even be tax deductible.

Mine says $525 from Apple, $568 from Best Buy, and $630 from Verizon. That's all I've checked so far.

You will get more on eBay but be warned there are a lot of scammers. I never had any trouble selling on eBay until I sold some iPhones. Three in a row, months apart. In each case I got a message through eBay messaging (not email) asking me to ship it to another address. Fortunately it was clearly BS and I simply don't ship to any address other than the one used to buy the item anyway.

In the first case eBay cancelled the sale automatically several hours later as the real account owner contacted them and said they hadn't made the purchase. The scammer used their account to purchase the item which is why they wanted it shipped to a different address.

The second time eBay didn't automatically step in but I Googled the shipping address and it came up as fraudulent, it contained a code that causes packages to be automatically re-routed to a reshipper and never show up as delivered with tracking. I called eBay to let them know but they didn't have any advice. I waited it out and after a couple days the sale was automatically cancelled.

The third and final time the same thing happened and eBay once again didn't step in but I was able to confirm that the actual account owner did indeed make the purchase yet someone was still able to contact me through eBay messaging trying to get me to ship it to another address. A couple days after the buyer received the iPhone eBay contacted me to say the account owner contacted them and said they hadn't made the purchase and they were refunding them. Great. Fortunately I had their contact info and it turned out they did not make any such request but they had to call eBay and tell them they had indeed made the purchase and not to refund them. I lucked out in that they were honest.

Sorry, long response. If you sell on eBay make sure to Google the shipping address, don't ship it to an alternate address, be on the lookout for re-routing codes in the address (a # followed by a bunch of letters and numbers in my case)... or just take a hit and trade it in to Apple which is what I'm doing this time around.

Might be a bit low, but definitely not worth the hassle. eBay use to be great. But given all the scammers, people trying to return because they found a better offer and the exhorbinet fees just not worth it. Swappa is better but still a hassle.

Looks like we established a market. Looks like ~$650 is fair value. That’s befoena flood of x’s hit Ebay and swappa.
