what i need

While writing this post, i am ripping a 2 hour dvd. I am on a Pentium 4, so it takes a while. If i use H.264, I get an ETA of 5 hours (yikes!). If i use mpeg-4, i get an ETA of 1 hour 30 min (I am now imagining how fast it would rip on a Gulftown [six-core] Core i7), and I really dont care about quality (unless it is lower than 360p), so i am using this.

nice revival :p h264 uses a lot better algorithms then mpg4. It just 'feels' better too... But of course if you don't car then I guess you don't need me to blab Haha

"600mb for a 2 hour" strange I get for 1.5 hours (1280*720, 20Mbs, using FCS and starting with ProRes 422 HQ) about 8 GB !!!!

h.264 is mp4....or at least that is my understanding, but there are other variations of mp4 i think. To make things easy though just think of h.264 as
the new standard, all your encoding should be h.264 for future and present compatibility, It is a great codec that really produces outstanding results. my encodings come out to approx 600mb for a 2 hour movie and look excellent.

hope that helps
