So... Chaff Facebook and Google?

It’s not like these companies aren’t precariously dependent on the data fed to them by the public.

Fight back. Feed them garbage until they die.

The public needs something kinda like the SETI project, a utility for user background processing to process signals, but directed to pour useless data into these parasites.

After stealing data from the 400,000 people attacked first, Facebook used their friends list to steal access tokens for approximately 30 million people.

Well there’s your problem, don’t be friends with Facebook...

And the best thing is that FB keeps asking you to do use your credit card information and do transactions with them.

Anyway, that data they collected is useless unless you suffer from some serious gossiping personality disorder.

Facebook will end up like Hi5 within two years. In the oblivion.... do you remember when people....

Or China, or North Korea, or Iran.

Glad I deleted my account in 2016.
It doesn't matter that your deleted it. Your friends still have it and they most like have your contact information stored in their phone. Many of those friends willingly shared that contact information with Facebook and that contact information is what these hackers were able to get.

That has absolutely nothing to do with taking weeks to notify 30 million plus people their information is compromised. So much can happen in that time.
Seems like they got the details now after investigating and have information up on their site and will be contacting the millions of affected people with customized details in the coming days.

I’m not sure if there is a way to actually “delete” FB, but I deactivated my account almost 3 years ago. Haven’t looked back. And once I saw that photo of Zuck with tape over his laptop camera and microphone, I realized I made the right decision. :)

This 1000%..

People need to realize that everytime you check or submit info to these sites; you are pretty much walking into a store and giving whoever is behind the counter your personal information in return for use of their services.

Just imagine walking into a store and the person behind the counter saying; Hi, in order to proceed, please let me know your gender, relationship status and whom you're involved with, your closest circle of friends, interests, political interests, religion, location data, your career field, your employer, and also please submit photos of yourself, pets, friends, and family in order to proceed.

What would you do? How would that make you feel?

But it is so much more insidious than that even. My friends have Facebook and WhatsApp accounts, meaning they have shared my details from their phonebooks with them - even though I have had zero say in it.

As for Zuckerberk prancing around like he is the messiah.

I knew about the 30 million last week. Facebook had to have known before that. We're now going on a minimum of two weeks of 30 million people not knowing if their info is compromised. That is unacceptable.

I don’t see this as news anymore. Unless people immediately lose money or have their credit destroyed overnight 99% of Facebook users don’t care that their (so called) private information is being viewed and at some point mis-used.
I've been saying this for some time. The entire Equifax database was stolen and there was literally zero fallout. How could the private details of hundreds of millions of people be compromised and not even the government cares?

You are assuming they had the details to provide as to what was compromised right away or even early on and that it's simple and fast to contact 30 million people. While it would certainly be great if it was simple and quick (and even better if it all didn't even happen at all), the reality is that the reality is quite a bit more nuanced and complex than that unfortunately.

We know this because we've seen their private messages posted online.

I'm not sure it's useful to differentiate between hackers stealing your personal data vs Facebook willingly selling it to others. The net effect is the same.

The funny this is that in the so-called Russian meddling on the 2016 Elections, the main conduit was FB!!! They did't scrutinize who these people were, FB, just kept on selling and allowing the Ruskies to do their thing!

I am not sure why these companies AND the credit bureaus don't get slapped with a huge fine when this happens!

And people looked at me crazy when I say I never had a FB account..

Unfortunately, in the digital age, getting our data hacked will be the norm. If you have an iCloud account, the same thing can happen. Same with Google, Amazon, etc. The Equifax breach is still the worst in recent memory.
