Hacking from a distance?

Hi,
I'm wondering if it is possible to hack an iPhone 3G en control it from a distance, knowing the serial number and apple ID?
After my ex-husband synchronized my iPhone to find my serial number, I had the impression that someone could control my whatsapp messages from a distance ( my text was deleting itself, I didn't touch the screen?!)
Can anyone tell me whether i'm going crazy or not? 🙂
