I had a late 2006 iMac, it was 2.0ghz core 2, 1g ram, with the ati x1600 card in it. Last month I was using it and something shorted out and a flaming piece of metal fell out of the bottom of the computer to the left of where you would install new memory. I called apple and the computer was still under warranty, so they sent me one of the new aluminum iMacs, but it's the one with the radeon hd2400. This is kind of bothering me because I use the computer to play games a fair amount, and from what I hear the hd 2400 is worse than the x1600. That would be a downgrade in a way, even though some of the other specs are upgraded. Anyone think there's a chance they would upgrade me to one of the hd 2600 ones?

Have you received the replacement yet? If not give them a call and talk about it. They may upgrade you.

Normally I just shove the squeaky wheel into the recycle bin.

ya i already got the new unit. the first three guys who took my claim screwed it up too, then promised me 1gb of free ram to make up for it, and they didn't deliver on it. i don't know if they'll let me send it back for a better one though. guess i'll call tomorrow.
