Just wanted to share a story just in case anyone else is having the same issue. I noticed a couple days ago a black circle that showed up on my camera that could not be rubbed off externally. I zoomed in and it would disappear only to come back when I zoomed back out. I took photos and the black spot was there on the photo. Almost like I had a speck of dust stuck in the lens.

I shot over to the nearest Apple store and they replaced it on the spot with a brand new phone. No hassle, no problems. While I do have AppleCare+, this didn't cost me a dime as I assume it's still in the 90 day warranty period.

When it comes to defects Apple has outstanding service! It's very rare that you'll find another company who will replace a $500 product right on the spot with a brand new one.

Had the same problem

I was having the same issue. I dont have apple care+, and it had been about 100 days since I got my iphone 5, and they replaced mine free of charge, hassle free. Just wanted to put that out there for others in this situation.
