I give up with the Homepod Minis. Apple's unofficial motto of "it just works" is in jeopardy with this product line. Five of them come and go, turn on with unwanted music at all hours, refuse to setup or even reset on one day, then immediately reinstall the next. Cheap Asus wifi or high quality Ubiquity setup, no change. Segmentation, Vlans, an entirely separate WiFi address - no fix.

I will try to find some poor smuck that I dislike and donate them.

But, enough raving. Anybody had success with other vendors? What I want is a good intercom mostly. Music and weather, etc, is secondary.

???

I’ll admit they are not the best of devices but never had random music playing. Do you have any pets? I’ve had the cat occasionally touch the top and got something playing, but none of the drama you’re experiencing.

My mom had the issue of music randomly playing on her Mini(s) (no pets), but not recently I don't believe. Not sure what changed, sorry, but I suppose there is hope.

Sorry to say the HomePod 2 (full size) also suffers from this. The culprit is not the ghost touch issue or a pet, it is IOS 26. Never had a problem before then.

26.5 (developer beta) is on it now and it hasn't gone off after 2 days. Fingers crossed.

Interestingly my first gen full sized Homepod is solid as a rock. It just sits there, I use it and never think about it.
I have 2 homepod minis ordered. Is this really a homepod issue, or an OS problem?
IMO, it is a homepod issue. As I said above, my big one on the same network has never had problems. If you go online, you will see lots of similar complaints about the Minis. On the other hand, lots of posts that give never having problems with Minis.

All I can say, is that I am tired of fooling with them.

I just cancelled my order. I'll see what the next gen looks like. It'll be coming out fairly soon. I am getting impatient though as I have set up lots of Aqara equipment but have no "intercom" capabilities.

Ive posted this elsewhere but it applies here too.

I’ve owned 10 HomePods since the introduction of the first generation years ago. I absolutely loved all of them until about a year and an half ago, when one of my mini died due to the ghost touch issue. It just started playing music at random times of day/night. Since then, 2 more minis and a full size 2nd gen have also died this way. Latest was just back in March with the full size.

All in all 4 out of my 10 have now died and the issue started well before IOS 26 for mine so I’d bet it’s a HomePod issue.

I’m really starting to think the HomePod / HomePod mini issues stem from more electrically sensitive electronics and dirty power than software because so many people have different experiences with them. I’ve had 3 for years and none of them have had any random playing issues and I have 2 cats and 3 kids that aren’t light on them. I also have a whole home surge protector/suppressor on my main though. 🤷🏼‍♂️

My original HomePod is still going strong, no random music except by the cats. Bear was a classical soul, Baby Doll will listen to anything.
