So after receiving my X ten days ago, everything was running fine. Until my Apple Music subscription expired yesterday. Then it decided to remove a lot of my music from my phone - which I only found out as I was flying to Madrid. Not to worry, as I have a smart playlist with everything (around 8k tracks) so during my three hour layover I logged on to the airport WiFi, hit download and left it.

Still, everything seemed fine, until this morning. Went to open my music app, and it crashed. Switched the phone off and then on again, still crashed. I figured maybe there was a corrupt file, so went to open settings to delete all my music and start again... except that crashed too. So I did a soft reset - volume up, volume down, hold the side button. Still the music app was crashing, and this time nearly all the other apps were too. But at least I could open the settings this time. So I reset the settings, but again, this did nothing. A factory restore was in order. After restoring from backup, still the same issue occurred - most apps seemed to be crashing instantly. Could only put it down to something being corrupt somewhere.

So, for the first time in nearly 4 years, it was “set up as new iPhone”.

Luckily, things seem to be working as they should now. And anything that was of importance to me was backed up to iCloud. The only slight annoyance is that my texts/iMessages have now gone, but there wasn’t anything too sentimental there.

No real point to this post other than venting really! And a general wondering if anyone else has experienced similar.

Seems that iOS 11 is still pretty buggy.

I thought the restore function had the option to choose from different backups. Is it possible to try an older backup? Don't know if that would help since the backup you used would have been before this incident occurred anyway, but might be worth a try.

I have all my music with the cloud icon since moving around from iphone to android and now back on iphone. How can I download all the music instead of clicking the cloud icon for each track?

On the computer in iTunes make a Smart playlist containing all your songs then simply set it offline on the phone

i purposely setup my 10 as a new phone this year - for the first time in forever. i honestly think this makes the phone insanely faster.

Just the latest backup at 01:15 this morning, or one from about 2015 unfortunately.

If nothing else, it should hopefully sort out a few of the bugs I've been experiencing.
