HaHa iTunes 500 million counter is screwed up!

Well, it works fine on my computer. Someone refreshing their page will not affect Apple's "counter" because it's on their server. If they refresh their server, then we might see something.

I am skeptical about apple.coms counter. It is an animated gif, so I don't know the accuracy of it. The widget counter always seems to be a couple thousand songs ahead of apple.com's counter.

The widget uses a different, less accurate (AFAICT) data source.

The homepage counter is a fancy bit of JavaScript that is given a number and a rate, and works off of that until you reload when it's given another number and rate.

The counter is not an animated GIF. Don't know where you got that.

If you look at the source code here:

You'll notice it runs off of ActiveX - a Microsoft technology. That made me chuckle. A little bit.

It only uses ActiveX if nothing better is available 😀
