it's definitely possible that you are balding (sorry about that if that's what's going on) but don't jump to conclusions. Im 16 and lose hairs all the time, especially when i go to add gel to my hair 3-4 will generally pop out, and i am by no means bald, i have a nice full head of hair. As others have pointed out, it could merely just be shedding. In fact i would lose many more hairs than that when i had my long jew-fro. So don't fret just yet ol' chum.

I would not worry about it. I been having hair fall out like that since I was like 15-16 years old and I am currently 23. My Hair is still very thick and still a lot of it. Almost every time I get a hair cut they thin it out.

About the only reason I dont see many of my hairs that fall out is I keep my hair cut pretty short. Longest hair being about an inch long.

As long as the hair is replaced you are fine.

mind you I do have a friend who was pretty bald by the time he was 18 but hair falling out is not a big deal. Only worry if your hair is getting thinner or the hair line is is falling back.

Hair starts falling out/off as soon as you start to grow hair, that is +/- age 0. The question is if the hair follicle starts another growth cycle or not.

Rapid hair loss is caused by age and in many cases excessive testosterone.

It might just be puberty. I remember around seventh grade hair was falling out of my head like crazy. I'm sixteen now and it doesn't happen anymore. It'll probably stop soon enough.

Yeah, well I've recently started my growth spurt (like a year ago), and I suppose testosterone might have a part in it.

By the way, for those wondering, my dad is in his 40s, and he has a pretty big recessed hairline. My mom doesn't.

I've been swimming, biking, and doing a lot more excercize than I used to. Maybe that's why.

Well thanks for all the suggestions.

You can always just shave your head if you go bald .. Zidane looks cool!

I'm only 23 but my hair has been turning grey since I was about 17. Pretty obvious to spot greys on a head of black hair..

A few hairs here and there aren't necessarily a sign of hair loss.
Are you eating well? Temporary hair loss can be a sign of certain deficiencies.

Make sure to be getting enough Biotin -- most multi-vitamins only contain about 10% of the RDA, so you might want to buy a Biotin supplement. B-vitamins in general are good for hair. In addition, you could buy a dedicated hair supplement -- many of them contain herbs (e.g., springtime horsetail) rich in silica.

In general, try to eat a balanced diet rich in protein, fruit and vegetables.
If this doesn't help, I would consult a dermatologist. And yes, chlorine is definitely not good for your hair as it dries it out. Make sure to rinse out chlorine well after swimming. You might be able to buy special after-swimming shampoo that is especially good at getting chlorine out. Condition hair after washing out chlorine.

Wear hair short.

Yeah, I always thought hereditary hair loss had to originate from one's father, and my father, uncles, grandfather, and even grand-uncles who I met had a full head of hair into their late 90s. :)

Unfortunately, every man on my mother's side is BALD (capitals deliberate). Does anyone know if you're likely to inherit the same hair loss patterns too? :(
