I'd really appreciate some advice please.

I was thinking of downloading the halide app for my 11 pro max. I take pictures of my toddler with the stock app but that's impossible because he moves so much and the shutter speed is so low.

Do you think the halide app would help with that? I could set the shutter speed higher but would the pictures be usable if taken indoors in low light? Obviously the iso would have to be really high.

I have VSCO and tried with that (by setting the iso and shutter speed high) but the images were really bad and not useable.

Do you think halide would handle it better? Halide doesn't even have a trial so I'd appreciate your help!

Thank you!

I heard Halide was going away soon, I read an article about it somewhere. I have it but don’t use it. I prefer Camera-M because it uses apples smart HDR and deep fusion in the photos. No other app claims to use those features. Also Camera-M has focus tracking but I haven’t tried that on action yet. Lots of features. Camera-M might be a better choice for you. I like the UI better than Halide.

Why would they? Do you remember what was the topic of that article?

I’m sorry but I don’t. I think I saw it on Flipboard but I can’t find it. It was directly related to Halide, it was an article talking about photo apps in general. I think I remember that it wasn’t going to be on the App Store next year.... anyway don’t quote me on it, since I can’t find it, I can’t prove it. It’s a cool app, but I like Camera-M much better. If you like smart HDR and deep fusion, that’s the app to get. At least go to the App Store and read up on it.

Try live photos. When being faced with situations where the object has unpredictable movement, personally I rethink what kind of memories I would like and do either live photos or just record a video. Later on I can extract a decent enough still if needed.

Thanks! That’s a great idea!

What do you use to extract the still photo?

Have you tried any other app other than the stock app?

Thanks again!

Is it possible that you've read an article about Metapho, which added a feature that allows you to detect if a photo was shot using deep fusion? In this article, one of the creators of Halide mentioned that they did not add such functionality into Halide because Apple will kill that detection feature soon - not Halide itself.

I extract the still from a Live Photo through the stock app. You go to the Live Photo, hit edit, select the live circle icon at the bottom left row on the screen and you can pick which still you would like to pull from the short clip.

Thank you!

If you don't mind, could you please share how you would extract a still from a video clip?

Thank you very much!

The way above was how to extract a still from a Live Photo.
To extract a still from an actual video I use the stock photos app, go to the video, hit play then pause. I slide the scrolling bar at the bottom to the frame I want, tap the screen and all the framing goes away, then take a screenshot (my iPhone X is by pressing the sleep/wake button and volume up at the same time).

Thanks anyway! I purchased Halide recently so was afraid it will become a zombie app before it will work for some reasonable time.
