HALLELUJAH! No more Matte vs. Glossy Threads!

not that i planned on upgrading anyway, but i loved the matte screen on my ibook and the one on my MBP. i hate glossy screens.
the glass trackpad is also annoying if it's anything like the current tapping options on apple's trackpads.
no more firewire?

+1 to this.

I HATE glossy. What gives me hope is that there are thing you can add to your display that will make it "matte" :(

RIP.

Behold.

If you want the matte display you can still get it.

Just pay the extra for the 17" and you can still get it. (17" now only offered in hi-res.)

Ughhh...oh well. This is a negative for me but whatever. Also, why get rid of FW400?? Gahhh I dont wanna complain but...I cant help it.

"You can turn it, its a notebook." What kind of backwards thinking is that? A lot of photographers and graphic artists are going to be maaaad...

I hate glossy too.

How are the glossy screens made? Is it just a layer?

I was cleaning my laptop one day while working in the clean room, and accidentally picked up a cloth that had acetone and not IPA. It put a big smear on my screen. I thought i smeared the gloss but IPA took the smear right off.

Can you just wipe the glossy off?

Glossy sucks.

Normally I hate simple statements like that, but in this case, it fits perfectly.

I'm VERY disappointed at Apple in this regard. Personally i've not upgraded our Imacs solely because we don't want anything glossy.

Yeah, how annoying. The matte screen was one the first reasons why I considered the mbp. Here goes that out of the window. Why didn't I just get one in July when I fist started flirting with the mbp?

It had to be a large percentage of sales going to glossy. If Matte was so good then they would still sell it. With the correct lighting, I don't see my reflection.

It might explain why Photoshop Pros are in such a bad mood. They have improper lighting in their office and causing them to see their angry face on the monitor.

So, wait.

I have to buy another adapter to use my external monitor? I can't just plug it in the dvi slot? Lame.

And if I want to use FW400, something I use every day to capture video...I have to buy an express card?

All they had to do was leave FW400 and Matte alone and I'd be pumped for this.

Exactly! I have to capture video as well, but why do you need an express card? Cant you just buy a FW400 (what is it, 4 pin?) to FW800 cable? I know they exist.

Problem is I use my Firewire 800 port for an external hard drive to capture footage TO. Unless we can daisy chain it onto the external hard drive?

"Oh well to compensate for the glare we have increase the display output"

Great what does that do. I have to turn my screen almost all the way down the way it is.

So hallelujah! no more crappy vs. matte threads,
and hallelujah! to never having to buy an Apple laptop again.

HELLELUJAH HACKINTOSH!!!!!!

Isn't that the problem? Having to buy more adapters and accessories...

I know I know, I do the same thing. I guess that means we're gonna have to capture to the desktop, then move it to our 800 drive? What do you mean by daisy chain? How can we capture from a 400 and save to an 800 at the same time?

Yeah, looks like I won't be upgrading my MBP any time soon. The next laptop I get may have to be another hackintosh.

Personally, I like glossy, but....

Less choice is always bad.

Hey, get the glass one and then scratch it all up with a scotch pad- will that work ?

Apple... you lost me in translation!

i wonder where the engineers/designers got their "idea" on what to remove and what to add..
it seems like everything was planned ONE Day prior to production date

What does that mean??

Many of the firewire drives have multiple ports on the back. So instead of connecting the two drives directly to your computer, one would be to the computer and the other would be connected to the 1st harddrive itself.

Ohhhhh...and that works?!?

check out the glare on the images that gizmodo took. I would never buy a notebook that had glare like this. On the new macbook, the glare is more dominant than the actual screen image. That just stinks. www.gizmodo.com
