My son has an iPhone 5 that has died. I've decided to pay off my AT&T Next plan for my iPhone 6 and pass it on to him (I'll get a new Next plan for an iPhone 6s).

My question is...Can I pull the sim card out of my son's iPhone 5 and put it in the iPhone 6 to activate it for him? Or, do I need to go to AT&T (really don't want to do that!) and get a new sim card for the iPhone 6?

Thanks!

Did that a couple of years ago on AT&T and the switch was completely painless. Tech and policies change rapidly so hopefully someone with more recent experience can share.

In this case the best thing to do would be a factory reset then power off the phone, pop in the sim & go. No need to visit the store.
