    Hi,

Recently I have been doing some conversion and it seems that in the beginning everything worked fine but not anymore. I converted a couple of .avi before and everything worked fine but now handbrake seems to convert but they dont work.

Meaning the audio works but there is no video.

What I did was go on handbrake, find the .avi source (my tv show) then select the AppleTV preset (like I did previously and it worked) then start.

The .m4v gets created, i can click to play it but there is no video, only audio and it sounds very normal. What happened. is it something to do with the conversion or is it my computer acting up? other shows work fine and other movies work fine (the old conversion that I mentioned work fine).

EDIT: WTH, my 183mb TV show converted became 1.83GB? what is happening with my conversion. Someone please help, I must have changed a setting somewhere that caused this disaster.

    Thanks in advance,
    AE

Use VideoSpec to analyse the source .avi and the target .m4v file that gives you a problem and attach the reports to your next post.

The target video bitrate is ten time higher than the source bitrate, which might be too much for whatever you want to do, though I don't see why.
Did you use the AppleTV preset? Maybe try updating the presets:

    and then try again.

    Hi

I also noticed that the conversion that worked where .mp4 not m4v. I dont know how handbrake decided to go with m4v from now on, can I go back to mp4?

It seems that mp4 work and they are smaller than the original .avi. and the quality is great on my 53" TV. can anyone tell me how to go back to mp4?

    Thanks
    AE

I just updated my presets as you showed in your screenshots but my files are still m4v, how do I go back to mp4?

EDIT: I have managed to change it back to mp4, it was a setting that I chose by mistake.

    Everything should work fine now.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Thanks
    AE

Try changing the CHAPTERS settings to not create chapter markers, that changes my .m4v to .mp4.
