I had difficulty deciding where to post it so I'm going to cross-post.

During WWDC, Apple announced that hardware and software support for HEVC would be available natively on Apple devices. I'm a big fan of HEVC, but IIRC the encoding options will affect the ability of devices to play back HEVC encoded video.

Has anyone tried encoding videos on Handbrake in HEVC and successfully playing them back natively in iOS11?

If so, what encoding settings did you use to make it work well? Thanks!

Choose H.265 and you‘re done. Works great.

Thanks for the reply! So you've tried it and it works? Any preset in particular you used? Just to check, I'm not entirely clear about this but I had the impression that certain encoding settings can make decoding difficult, and I'm not sure if there are any limitations in Apple's HEVC decoding implementations.

I believe the nightlies recently had a fix to make the encoding more in line with Apples requirements, so make sure you are on the bleeding edge with nightlies.
