HandBrake - how can I play a .mkv file?

Can anyone tell me how to convert or play a .mkv file created using HandBrake application?

VLC or install Perian 1.1 (install Flip4Mac while you are at it) and use Quicktime Player.

I can now play my .mkv file in Quicktime but how can I burn it to a DVD to play in a DVD player?

you cant just play an MKV file in a dvdplayer, you would have to convert the file using Visualhub first and then author it using a Idvd or a similar app.
