It use to take about 24 hours to do what today's average system can do in 2 hours.

Man, just think about all the math Handbrake needs to do in order to do its thing. Today people throw around Gigabytes like the Pentagon throws around Gigabucks. A single DVD can contain up to 9GB of data, that is 9,000,000,000 one's and zero's, and in just a few hours your Mac can read and intelligently reprocess all of them. NINE BILLION!!! Nine billion seconds = 285 years! The moon is around nine billion inches away from the earth! Three fully-loaded aircraft carriers weigh nine billion ounces! Think about exactly what Handbrake is doing in a couple of hours next time you're stoned, it boggles the mind.

Right, but my processor is capable of doing two things 1,833,333,333 times a second. So... that 9 billion number no longer impresses me. And why shouldn't I throw around gigabytes? My ipod has 30 of them, my desktop 750, my laptop 100, my external drives have 40 each, I have a 50 stack of DVD-Rs, so that is another 230 or so... really, gigabytes are cheap. Heck, 1TB desktop drives are less than $.50 USD right now, some as low as $.30 USD. 750GB drives can be had for as cheap as $150, which is $.20 USD! 20 cents a gigabyte... you can't even get a coke for that cheap, and it is made here!

I can't wait to see how long it will take me...

I only have 768 mb of ram and a 1 ghz processor so using handbrake will be amazing. I just got a 500 gb external hard drive and have a lot of dvd's, like 90% tv shows and I want to be able to watch them with ease on my mac. I've always wanted a lifetime hobby :D Can't wait to see how long it takes. ;) By the way any recommendations on what size files for a 15 in screen and a decent quality.

Handbrake for Apple TV

The latest version of Handbrake v 0.9.2 which they have claimed will enhance the quality for Apple TV. So I want to know, in order for me to get the best quality, what do I need to do to get it encoded to .m4v quicker. I'm ripping it with Mac the Ripper as it does it in a snap.

I just wanted thoughts about how to get this job faster. Theres Handbrake Lite which does do it super quick. But I want to back up my entire library(When you have little kids, they have little hands) as a backup.

Any help please??
