Just wondering. Is it okay to chance the FPS tab to a higher setting to get faster speeds? When I have it set on same as source it converts at only 6fps on my umpb.

No, this setting is about the number of FPS in the video content, not the FPS that the compressor achieves. Best to leave it alone.
 
Maybe use a different setting. I use Legacy / Apple TV, at 1700kb/s and I think it looks OK.

Getting 120fps on a Mac Pro, but a MBP should be at least 25.

yeah i'm planning on getting a appletv and hacking it and i want to have all my movies backed up on a external drive. i also got a hdpvr to capture 1080i from the directvhd box with eyetv3.

i am using the very high quality settings that are on another site but when i change the settings to something more normal i am getting fast speeds. i just want the quality to be transparent.
