HandBrake on battery power

1st Post, 1st Mac I have a 2011 MBP 13" i7.
Can someone tell me if it is normal for HandBrake to eat up the battery time as quick as it seems. Full charge started HandBrake the time went down to 1 hour.

yes handbrake will KILL battery time, when encoding your cpu will max out at 100% duty and that kind of kills battery time. plus you have an i7 which will use more power than the base cpu for the 13" MBP.

yeah and if you also have a 7200RPM hard drive, you get some better performance but also lose battery life and your computer heats up more.

Same principle as human beings really: the more you're doing the more energy you need to do it. Handbrake maxes out all your processor cores so that it can render faster, downside of that is that it eats battery for breakfast.

Handbrake is will take all your CPU can give. I used to use it to run down the CPU when calibrating the battery. 😀

Op tbh tasks like handbrake will eat your battery even on the mains.
