i believe that getting the latest version of vlc installed along with handbrake should solve this problem, also, using mactheripper is advisable.

BINGO --- VLC is what I was referring to, VLC+Handbarkes works well for me!!!

No, it doesn't.

MacTheRipper removes the DVD's CSS copy protection, leaving the video in the same format.

HandBrake only works on unprotected source media, and it offers the option to convert to a variety of video formats.
