Hey, I have a quick question regarding handbrake. I'm not very tech savvy, so excuse me if I sound like an idiot. I want to add all of my DVD's to my iTunes library so that I can watch them using my ATV. I notices that handbrake has an ATV2 preset that encodes the video in 720. My question is this, if I encode all of my videos now at 720, will I have to re-encode them all again to take advantage of 1080p when apple releases a 1080p capable ATV (hopefully this Sept 🙂. Hope that makes sense, thanks for any replies.

Since video DVDs are in SD (Standard Definition - 480p), they are not in HD (High Definition - 720p or 1080i/p), thus you will not gain anything by upscaling the SD video to HD.
Just use the normal dimensions the source has, the Apple TV 2 preset will not alter these anyway.

That makes sense. So, perhaps the question that I should be asking, is what are the best settings for watching movies on an HDTV. I don't really care about the file size, I just want to get the best picture possible. Right now, I was going to use the ATV2 preset and then add some video filters and 2-pass encoding. Will that be alright, or should I try something else.
