Handbrake, wtf?

So, I've been told by many that handbrake is an amazing converter for my movies. I'm trying to convert AVI-iPhone, and I keep getting errors >< I choose my desired movie, the output of my soon to be converted movie, and the iPhone preset. After a good solid 30mins of converting my final product doesn't even work...

Am I doing something wrong??

Yes. you're using the really old Windows *.avi video. It's a container not a codec. There might be better apps for old avi files.

Are you sure it's an older AVI, because I'm trying to convert a recent movie...

What camera did you use ?. Just because the camera is newer and the movie is new doesn't mean it isn't using the old MS avi container.

It's not a camera, it's a movie my friend gave to me as we're about to go on a 2 week school camp >< It's um "Cop Out?" =.. 😀
