handbreak error - No Valid Source Found

I keep reading how good handbreak is in converting videos but it doesn't seem to work for me. Every video that I try to convert, multiple sources, I always get the error "No Valid Source Found", what am I missing?

Handbrake is only for DVDs; you are probably looking for something like Visualhub.

You could also try ffmpegx, a free video convertor, although the interface is a pain to use.
